Chapter 29 & 30

Dan's POV

We all sat down at the rectangular table

Y/N to my left
Tanya, Jim, and Louise across from us
And Zoe and Joe on the ends

We sat quite closely. It was hard just sitting next to her and not being able to show affection. I love her so much as cheesy as that sounds

We ordered our food and continued talking. Someone started cracking a funny anecdote so I slipped Y/N's hand in mine under the table while nobody could give it much attention.

She flinched a little out if shock but soon smiled, never taking her eyes off the person speaking but giving me a quick squeeze.

That was one of the very few un-awkward moments of the night. Sometimes we'd touch accidentally, both look up at each other and turn away unsettling.

But I think it worked out in the end

Y/N's POV

The food was great. It was the end of the night, everyone had eaten and I had a fantastic time. It just reminded me that my friends would always be there for me in the end. No matter what the outcome of this was

(not to mention how much my stomach still did flips when I thought about her not getting through it. But that was expected - we've been BFFLs since forever)

It still made me calm and honsetly a lot better with opening up about Maddie.

Before leaving the restaurant we all stopped at the restrooms. Dan waited just outside for me as he didn't need to go

When I was done washing my hands I was ready to tell the girls. I looked up and saw them messing about with their hair and such in the mirrors.

"Hey guys I don't know if Joe told you-"

"Told us what, hun?" Tanya asks and they all turn to me with concerned/confused expressions

"Maddie is in the hospital"

"Why?" Zoe asks, being the only one who knows who Maddie is. The three of us went out before and she invited her to the party. "She never did make it to your karaoke party.."

No shit... I get prepared to say what I was about to have to admit

"She got hit by a car on her way over, she's um... In a coma." I confess uneasily. Zoe looks shocked. I let her process it while I explain to the other girls who Maddie is and how everything happened.

All at once they give me a group hug and tell me everything's gonna be fine and that they'll be here for me the whole time.

But I already knew that. I love them. Everything's pretty calm as I tried not to make to much of a deal of it. We walk out peacfully and think about how this was a pretty good night.

But life just had to mess with me doesn't it...

We walk outside the restroom, Zoe runs over to Joe, and Tanya to Jim as they walk a little farther towards the exiting doors. Louise lingers behind a bit to walk with me. I turn without really looking and bump into Dan, who also wasn't paying much attention.

When we bump arms it makes me drop my purse and my silver bracelet I always wear slips out of it

"Oh m- sorry Babe...." He knelt down to pick it up and froze

I was stiff

And Louise's eyes were wide

"Sly Howell" I said in a low voice

"I made it THIS far!" He says before burying his face in his hand, still on his knees

"You had one job."

"I shoulda stuck to Pup" He muffles the words into his hands. But it was still comprehensible.

"Yeah" I replied putting my hand on his shoulder.

We look up at Louise who looks like she's no longer speechless. But before she can say anything. I drag her back into the bathroom while the others (hopefully) go back outside.

A/N: oh shit.

Also, expect a large time skip soon. A lot of things are happening back to back. It's only been three days since your party- we need some gaps.

And yes- I only picked the song cuz this was 2 chapters combined, haha!
