Chapter 37

Phil's POV

I woke up on Sunday morning, having avoided Dan all of yesterday. He attempted to talk to me multiple times that day. We'd usually hang out in the lounge and watch anime, or film a gaming video, or at least sit in silence.

But I avoided all of that in my room.
And there was no way I was avoiding that today...

A little birdy told me Dan was coming to Maddie's appointment today. I was going to do anything I could to stop him

I stepped out of my room and into the warzone where I saw my best mate,

Dressed?

He looked like he had just gotten caught. Worried like a child who had been seen stealing a cookie from the cookie jar.

He had grabbed his phone and looked me in the eyes.

Then a car horn honked
And he ran as fast as he could before I could catch him. I tried to grab his arm before he escaped but it was too late and I knew there was no point in running after him. I looked out the window...

He left early that morning with Y/N so I couldn't stop him from going to the appointment. That sneaky little-

Y/N's POV

I watched Phil stare at us from the upstairs window as Dan jumped in my car and I hit the gas.

We drove to my house where Joe was waiting for our arrival

"Where's Zoe?" I asked closing the door

"I told you, I made sure she left with Alfie. Did Phil say anything?" Joe asked, mentioning my brother

We looked at Dan, "He saw me leave but we haven't exchanged a word since Friday. No matter how much I've tried..." he mutters the last part but Joe and I still hear

And I think about everything. I'm going to see my best friend who hasn't woken up in two weeks. I've managed to get myself in a secret relationship. Have a panic attack which may have made Dan hate me, who knows? And I have a brother who also most likely hates my guts... and I can't help but dwell on the fact that every single one of these is my fault.

I'm the cause of everyone's unhappiness- even my own.

A few hours have passed and Dan and I are soon driving down to the hospital.

I could feel my stomach grow nervous and Dan grabbed my arm

"It'll be okay" he says kissing my cheek

"I hope so" I say and he squeezes my hand

"I'll be here for you"

"I love you."

"I love you more."

"Really?"

"You have no idea.." He says and I can feel his gaze on my face

Dan and I arrive at the hospital where they are keeping one of the most important people in my life.

We sign in at the front desk and sit down. Not long before Phil enters the hospital but Dan doesn't notice until there's a 6'2'' tall man in casting a shadow in front of us.

"What are you doing here?" He says fumingly too Dan

"At this moment in time? Supporting my girlfriend. Now ask yourself what you're doing right now... because the answer is the opposite. You've done nothing but upset her these past few days. She holds the pain in her eyes, and if you can't see it-" Dan cuts himself off and looks away. Something in him just got so angry by Phil asking that question.

And before Phil gets another chance to respond...

"Ms. Y/L/N?" A female voice calls

We get called over to Maddie's room where a familiar face is waiting. Or should I say, two familiar faces. Before we walk in I see  her leaning against the door

"Y/N?" I hear her voice as she turns around

"Talya. Wow! I can't believe It's really you. I haven't seen you since you were 18!"

"And since you were 14. How've you been?"

"Pretty well. Um, this is my boyfriend, Dan"

"Hi." He says awkwardly

"And you definitely remember, Phil" I mention and she stares at my brother standing a few feet away

Maddie and I were always the same age but since we each had older siblings, whenever we hung out, typically Talya and Phil would too. Mostly Phil and Maddie's older brother, Blake.

"Of course" She says pausing for a moment
"Um- er, anyways, let's not avoid the task at hand..." she says pointing to the door behind her.

"This is my first visit too." she says softly with her arm on my shoulder. We paused for a minute before she opens the door.

"Hi, Maddie..."
