Missed Opportunities // Dan Howell x Reader

Chapter 57

A/N: Im writing this on my new laptop which currently only contains this picture of a vidcon stage and my dodie screensaver in my downloads so enjoy. ps. I never know when to capitalize/not capitalize y/n

Y/N's POV

I had just finished singing an original song that I had uploaded on my channel a while back. To my surprise, a lot of people in the crowd actually knew the words. Like- who was I? Dodie Clark?

If only Dan were here.. that's the only thing that could have made the moment better. I miss him

I went backstage to settle down. I would come out later for another panel and then to close out the day, Dodie would play One For The Road (song above...duh) with the help of her friends all partying behind her

As I was on my way to go back out to the next panel... I was stopped by someone

Dan's POV

I knew her panel was next as I went to the backstage area to look for her. That's when I saw her on her way back out. I looked farther back and that's when I saw him. Alfie Deyes looking in her direction, he was also on his way to catch up to her.

Once we saw each other's intentions it became a race. As I grew closer he began sprinting.. why is he trying to beat me? Hasn't he screwed me over enough at this point?  Why is he even here? Luckily I caught up to her first and grabbed her arm before she went on stage.

"Dan. What are you doing?" she asked

"The photo." I said

"I can't do this right now-"

"It was taken before we got together.." she fell silent for a moment before asking,

"Is she your ex? .. is that why you let her walk all over you?" She sounded disgusted at the thought

I could feel another person's presence behind me now, so I decided to continue before he could, "Alfie got me really tabled at this party one night.. it was the one Zoe threw for playlist. Cat took advantage of my state at the time and.. well, the photo happened." I explained

She was shocked. But not nearly as shocked as the thousands of people that just heard me say our current situation. Apparently y/n's microphone from when she sang her music had been turned on.

"y/n. you can't believe him, after everything he's done to you. First off he's been way nicer to Cat than he should've been" the audience voiced their confusion
"he didn't tell her that you were in a relationship until the very last moment" everyone gasped "and got so drunk he couldn't even remember what happened- that's just irresponsible. He's crazy!" the crowd proceeded to argue over what Alfie had just said considering that the party was a long time ago.

"You gave me the alcohol mate. You knew I wasn't in control of my own decisions and yet you continued to persuade me into making those decisions! I know you're up to something." I confronted him.

"How did you know about Cat?" y/n asked Alfie

"Zoe told me-"

"I never told Zoe that Dan forgot what happened that night. I didn't even know.. I thought he was just keeping the truth from me."

Alfie was silent.

"WHY DO YOU KNOW-"

"Hi everyone. I'd like to have your attention." A voice said, booming over the speakers, that made y/n go silent. She was breathing heavily like she had just finished doing something.

"I have the truth about everything you're hearing right now" It was Cat

We all expected her to deny the accusations about herself... but up on the screen behind her, all of Cat's messages with Alfie had been displayed.

"I will admit, I took advantage of Dan Howell. I had an insane crush on him and when Alfie told me he could help me get Dan away from y/n and closer to me.. I took my shot" The audience started to heckle but I think a few sympathized

"I know it was wrong. And when I tried to back out of the deal I made with Alfie he threatened to expose me and turn everyone against me- making himself seem innocent. He had me report to him about my time at Vidcon with Dan and didn't even come to Vidcon to see all of you because he didn't want to hang out with his current girlfriend Zoella." Cat had informed and I saw y/n slowly walk out on stage (I didn't stop her. No one did)

"In fact, the only reason Alfie started dating Zoe was to get closer to y/n!"

Y/n walked out to Zoe and grabbed her hand. But she wasn't done as they started to walk up to cat.

I saw her whisper something and then they hugged as Cat replied

Y/N's POV

"Is this true?" I asked

"I never wanted to ruin your lives. And never being loved makes you do stupid things."

I hugged her. I've been there before

"tell security where he is" I whispered in her ear and she left as the hug ended

I went up to the main stage mic.

"On behalf of Zoe and myself" I turned to look Alfie dead in the eyes, "f#ck you."

"b*tch" he spat as he began walking towards me but someone in the security staff had carried him away

I sighed out of relief.
.. what a f#cking day

"Hey.. so. Some of this might be confusing" I said awkwardly into the mic "I'll post about it later" I said putting my head down and walking away with Zoe. But Zoe wouldn't budge.

"Not yet" she said. I saw that her gaze was fixed on Dan as he stood in the middle of the stage looking at everyone

"Me and y/n have been dating for over three months."
There was a long pause.

"You don't have to-"

"Yes I do." He said.

"We weren't going to tell all of you, and keeping it a secret while someone is trying to hook up with you everywhere you go is kind of difficult. I wasn't sure what to do. I was afraid of my audience being mean to her." He turned to me

"I was trying so hard to protect you that I hurt you. And this isn't an excuse- I'm an idiot" he softly chuckled (I did too) and people awwed. I decided to reply, "I should have listened to you instead of turning away. I was just..." I was too afraid to give into him like I did with him. I was used to being manipulated. But that's not Dan.

I walked up to him and hugged him tightly. When he pulled away he kissed me and so many people cheered. The happiness lingered

"Sorry Phan isn't real" I laughed into the mic and everyone gave different loud replies. I even heard one girl shout above everyone else, "it's okay!" (That would be me😂)

"Well. How's that for a panel?" Dodie said. "I guess it's time for me to step in before we run out of time. This is called one for the road. And I dedicate this one to Zoe, cuz like seriously. F#ck that guy" Dodie laughed before starting

Some more people came out to dance and sing along but I stuck by Zoe the entire time.
Because I knew she would do the same for me.
