Dae's POV (Dae's Sister above)

My sister is a skilled abuser. I knew she was manipulative when I moved in with her to attend middle school. Mama and Papa didn't know that I was suffering so much. Marie took every opportunity to present herself as a loving big sister but I knew better. When I cry from deep sorrow and pain that you caused, she would blame me for my misery. When I hurt, she becomes the "victim" but celebrates privately. I learned early on that what I become depends on what I can overcome.

My first love told me that and he was the only one that kept me together when I was falling apart. We had a deep connection and our feelings toward each other was genuine, or so I thought. I still miss him when I think about the fun times we shared but, remembering what happened at graduation, I can't go back to my first love. Hopefully, the family barbque will give me the opportunity to see mama and papa. I thought that dealing with so much loss would give me thicker skin but, in the end it still hurts too much. Shaking my head from my own thoughts, I went to the bathroom to take a hot shower before work. While brushing my teeth, Ri video calls me smiling. "Dae! Don't rush to work. The surgery for this morning was cancelled. Oh, before I forget can we have lunch together again?

Oh, before I forget can we have lunch together again?

I knew something was going on. "Okay Ri. What are you up to?" Looking at Ri on my phone, she looked like something was on her mind. Smiling slightly, "Fine. Dr. Park received something in the mail and he's pacing back and forth in his office. I don't know what it is but, it can't be good. So, be on your toes for the staff meeting."

"Anything else?"

"Oh yeah. Can you bring me some of those muffins again from Buddies?" Ri loved food. She had the appetite of a truck driver. "Let me guess. The blueberry muffins right?"

"Please. I'm craving sweets again."

"I know you want me to get a box of chocolate muffins too." I responded rolling my eyes at her.

"Well, since you're offering."

"Ri, I'm hanging up."

Sticking out her tounge, she hangs up. Ri was my bestie and we always looked after each other so I didn't mind picking up some treats. After making a trip to Buddies, I brought two boxes of treats for the staff and some coffee. I always like to show my appreciation and I know that they will love the assortment of treats. The break room had the familiar smell of a warm bakery. Ri peeked in and watched as I poured just the right amounts of everything into the cup for her.

Hot steam rose from the brown liquid. Ri took the hot cup into her hands and sipped slowly at her cup of coffee. The smell of freshly grounded coffee beans stimulated every single feeling. She drank it slowly and poured another up before looking for the fresh baked muffins. Jong came in with the staff and Ri was already stuffing her face. "I hope you like coffee. It was freshly brewed this morning." Jong walks up to me and made a cup of coffee.
