(Emily POV)
I was watching tv with Ali curled at my side while the kids were sleeping because it was their bed time. A commercial came on.
Ali kissed my cheek.
"I'm going to get us snacks."She said and got up.
"Okay." I said.
I continued to watch the commercials.
"U.S. Army positions open."
It got me thinking... I should do it.
It'll be like following in my fathers footsteps. Honoring him during his retirement.
But on the other hand, I have Ali. And our children. I don't think I could do that to her... I need to be here for her.
My parents will be here for her though...
Ali returns with some popcorn and some candies.
"Yum, thanks babe." I say and kiss her temple.
"You're very welcome." She says and starts digging in.
After a few minutes I approach Ali with the subject.
"Ali?" I whisper still looking at the tv.
Her head snaps in my direction.
"Yes Babe?" She asks.
(Alison POV)
"Yes Babe?" I ask.
"Do you think I could join the Army?" She asks, barely audible.
"What?!" I say as I jump back in surprise.
"Do you think I should join the Army?" She asks again.
"Why?" I ask nervously.
"I want to follow in my dads footsteps. And I want to do something good for this country. Knowing I'm protecting people." She says.
"You could get yourself killed Emmy." I say as my eyes well with tears.
"I promise, I won't." She says and cuddles closer I to me.
I nuzzle my nose against her cheek softly.
"You don't know that." I whisper because I don't trust my voice right now.
"I do know that. Because I will grow old with you, Alison Lauren. I will be here. Always. We will have video chat, we will have the mail. We can make it through. Do you trust me?" She asks.
"Of course I trust you." I breathe out.
"Then trust that I'm coming back. Trust that we will grow old together. Trust that I am willing to do everything to keep you safe." She says.
"I love you so much. I just want you here. I want the babies to have you here. I don't know if I can do this on my own. You know how absent my parents are. We haven't seen them in so long." I say.
"My parents will always be here. The moves here for us, remember?" She says.
"I know, it's just going to be so hard. I don't want to hold you back from your dreams though." I say.
"If you don't want me to go, just say the word and I won't." She says.
"I want you to. If it's your dream, you're going." I say, with tears strolling down my cheeks.
She nods and pulls me into a tight hug, both of us crying. I think she is going to make the call tomorrow.
I snuggle into her side and we watch tv for a little longer before we do our nightly routine.
