Mrs Truemans service was beautiful, well as beautiful as a funeral can be, really. Adaline had stood between many strangers who were clearly friends and family of Mrs Trueman yet she had no idea who any of them were.

One girl stood out, who she remembered must of been Mrs Truemans daughter, Sophia. The girl silently made her way over to Adaline and gave her a small smile

"Adaline, right?" she said.

Adaline nodded "Yes".

"My mother was very fond of you, she went on about you non stop" she replied letting out a small laugh.

Adaline wasn't in the mindset to talk, so instead just smiled in reply before returning to her seat ready to go up one by one to say final goodbyes.

Adaline watched as family and friends walked up slowly and kissed their hands before touching the casket gently and walking out of the church.

Adaline got up, when it was her turn and made her way up. She sighed as she gazed at the photo of Mrs Trueman and thought back to all the wonderful memories she had with her.

She kissed her hand before placing it down onto the casket before gazing down one more time, still trying to process the fact Mrs Trueman was inside the coffin in front of her.

She expected to wake up tomorrow morning and go outside to smell the baking of Mrs Trueman from next door. Or walk past her house and see her outside gardening before smiling and waving to her.

Adaline walked back from the church after the memorial was over, her parents were still stuck at their meeting and had no idea about anything that had happened.

Although they were just as much neighbours of Mrs Trueman as Adaline was, they didn't have the connection with her like she did. They probably would barely even be sad to be honest when they found out.

She sighed as she walked along the road to return home and obviously it began to rain. The pathetic fallacy was too stereotypical in that moment but she just continued to walk as the rain began to pour down.

About an hour later, Adaline finally arrived home soaking wet. She got through the door and was surprised to see both her parents stood by the kitchen table with their arms crossed.

"Adaline! Where have you been you scared us hopeless!" Julie yelled as she rushed to Adaline and gently pulled her into the kitchen before sitting her down onto a stool and drying her off with a towel.

"I was at a funeral" Adaline muttered as her mother tried to pat her dry.

"You were what?!" she questioned confused as she stepped back holding the towel in her hand with her eyebrow raised.

"Mrs Truemans funeral" Adaline replied as she hopped off the stool.

Her parents just side eyed one another clearly oblivious of what was going on before Adaline explained, like usual when most things happened while they were away.

"Mrs Trueman died yesterday, she had a heart attack" Adaline added and her mother gasped cupping a hand to her mouth as she began to weep and her father wrapped his arm around her mother reassuringly.

Adaline noticed they both had sad expressions on their faces, but she knew they weren't as affected as much as she was.

"When did? How did? Who-who found her?" Julie asked.

"I did" Adaline replied quietly knowing her parents were about to freak out.

"What? You- you found her oh god, oh god Richard" Adaline's mother gasped as she turned round and her father patted his arm around Julie as she weeped some more.

"This isn't good for you Adaline, you shouldn't be left alone" Richard spoke softly.

"What do you mean? You haven't been worried by it for the past 3 years!" Adaline shouted now getting annoyed that they were using Mrs Truemans death as a way to try and fix things.

"Look, it was wrong of us to do that. And we thought Mrs Trueman was keeping an eye on you, seeing now she can't...we don't have a choice" Richard added.

Adaline looked at both her parents confused, as they turned to face Adaline both looking like they had discussed something important.

"What do you mean?" Adaline questioned.

"Your father and I..have decided that while we are away on our business trip that you stay with your aunt and uncle" Julie said.

"What?!" Adaline blurted back shocked by what was going on.
