Noah had gone away to help his Dad with work elsewhere but was coming back in a few days so Adaline didn't mind. Sure it was bit boring and she missed him like crazy but she knew at least she still had another week left to spend with him before she'd have to go back home.
Adaline had been helping Charlotte and Aunt Carol on the farm most days, as well as going to the market with Charlotte to collect some flowers for Oliver's birthday which was in a few days.
Two days went by quickly and Adaline managed to focus herself on other things to stop herself from missing Noah so much. She knew it was silly and it was only a few days without him but she was so used to being around him all the time that when he suddenly wasn't there it felt strange, lonely.
She wondered about how she would cope when she went home knowing she was struggling with only a few days, let alone who knows how long away from one another.
.....
Charlotte and Adaline were stood in the kitchen baking a birthday cake for Oliver.
"So, how are you coping being away from Noahhh" Charlotte teased as she turned and tickled at Adaline's side, laughing.
"Hey, stop it!" Adaline laughed as she tried to duck away from Charlottes hands.
"And I don't know what you mean" Adaline said pretending to not been feeling so bored and lonely without him around.
"Oh, stop it I know you're dying inside not having him around to make out with" Charlotte joked back laughing like crazy before she imitated Adaline and Noah kissing making noises with her mouth.
"Mhmm Adaline" she teased pretending to be Noah and Adaline grabbed a handful of flour before throwing it at Charlotte covering her face with powdered flour.
"Hey!" Charlotte gasped as she brushed at her face trying to take the flour off which was now covering her.
Just then she grabbed her hand into the bowl and threw some back at Adaline, which started a fight. They giggled like crazy as they threw flour at one another squealing as they raced around the kitchen unaware of the mess they were causing.
A few moments later too busy messing around Adaline and Charlotte did not notice Aunt Carol walk back in. She glared over shocked by the mess before she put down her shopping bags and crossed her arms, coughing to get their attention.
The girls stopped and turned surprised to see her stood by the door after saying she wouldn't be back until much later on. Before they noticed the mess they had caused and saw they were both covered in flour and cake mix before standing side to side with their arms behind their backs waiting for Aunt Carol to scold them.
"Girls..care to explain?" Aunt Carol spoke calmly but strictly.
"We uh, we're sorry Aunt Carol we'll tidy this up immediately" Adaline blurted back feeling guilty about the mess they'd caused.
"Good, I expect this kitchen to be spotless when I get back from Oliver's football game" Aunt Carol ordered as she brung the bags of shopping into the kitchen and placed them down onto the kitchen table before turning and leaving.
An hour later Charlotte and Adaline finally managed to clean up the whole kitchen and, eventually this time properly bake the cake they were making for Oliver's birthday. Also just to be extra sure they put away the shopping from the bags to ensure they stayed on Aunt Carols good side even longer.
Another hour later Aunt Carol finally arrived home and came up the stairs to congratulate the girls on their good behavior. The girls apologized once more before promising not to do it again.
Later on that evening Aunt Carol told everyone they were going out for Oliver's birthday for a meal at a fancy Italian restaurant in the town. Adaline and Charlotte got ready together and Charlotte borrowed some of Adaline's clothes, to thank Charlotte for letting Adaline borrow some of hers the past few weeks.
They drove to the Italian restaurant and ordered some food. Apparently Aunt Carol and their family came here often as they were quite friendly with the owners.
"Carol..Andrew, Charlotte sweetie and aw if it isn't the little birthday boy Oliver!" a woman said as she held her hands out to them before she noticed Adaline sat alongside Charlotte and stared.
"And I don't think I've met you yet?" she questioned.
"This is Adaline, my niece, she's been staying with us for a few weeks while her parents are on a business trip away" Aunt Carol said smiling and the woman nodded before turning back to face Adaline.
"Ah you're just as beautiful as the rest of your family, good genes, good genes!" The woman said overly energetic before she rushed back behind to bring out the food.
"Who was that?" Adaline asked leaning over to Charlotte.
"An old family friend, my mum and dad first came here together on a date back in high school so they've known the owners for years" Charlotte explained and Adaline nodded.
"Aw that's so sweet, that woman is something else.." Adaline said laughing, never coming across someone like her before.
"Yeah, that's Viola. She's a lovely woman but very...well you know" Charlotte said laughing too.
"Yeah" Adaline replied as she looked over to where Viola was and noticed how upbeat she was singing and dancing around another table with young children sat in high chairs as the parents watched and laughed.
