A loud shout and crash was heard from outside and Jack shot back in his seat startled by the noise.

He looked over to Adaline who had panic in her eyes as she rushed out of the car and over to her neighbours house, clearly knowing where it had come from.

Jack clambered out of the car and towards the house where Adaline had run into before going inside and seeing her leant over on the floor cradling someones head on her lap.

Adaline turned looking up to Jack with tears in her eyes as she looked panicked. Jack had no idea who the old woman was laying against Adaline but he knew something bad had happened.

"She's collapsed, I think she might of had a heart attack!" Adaline shouted as she stared up at Jack.

He rushed over to the phone and dialed 999, before holding the phone to his ear impatiently.

He gazed back over his shoulder to see Adaline sat on the floor with her legs to one side as she held Mrs Truemans head gently in her lap and brushed her hair from her face. Adaline's cheeks were stained with tears as she cried worried for her health.

Jack spoke to the person on the other end and an ambulance was called. Jack then leant down next to Adaline and held around her as they tried to lay the woman in a comfortable position until the paramedics arrived.

A few moments later, sirens were heard zooming towards them before it stopped outside the house and Jack let the paramedics inside.

They hurried over to Adaline sat on the ground and helped her up and she rushed to Jack before he cradled her in his arms, she cried silently into his arm as he held her tightly.

Everything went silent for Adaline as she turned back slightly and watched as the paramedics in slow motion were shouting and moving things around, counting down before pressing the pads down onto Mrs Truemans chest.

They repeated it once, twice but still nothing. Adaline panicked as she watched them try once more.

Moments later after the commotion continued the shouting stopped and everyone stopped rushing around.

The paramedics slowly got up to their feet and began to pack away their things as the others slowly pulled a white sheet over the top of Mrs Trueman and began to push her on the stretcher out of the house.

Adaline gasped cupping her hand over her mouth as she watched Mrs Truemans lifeless body be taken out. The paramedics now with saddened expressions look over to Adaline, waiting to tell her the sad, but obvious news.

The tears streamed down her face as all the memories she had with Mrs Trueman flashed through her mind. While her parents were always so busy with work, Adaline ever since she was little had patted her little feet over to her house, Mrs Trueman had become like a grandmother to her. Considering her real grandparents lived far away, Mrs Trueman filled in that family figure for her.

As she grew older, Mrs Trueman helped her with things her parents were too busy to do. She would sneak over from time to time and help her to bake apple pies or casseroles all with her parents just next door typing away at a laptop or on the phone talking back and forth unaware that this woman was actually caring for their daughter more than they were.

And now that family figure of a grandmother was gone, taken away in a spilt second. Adaline had never dealt with death before, at least not from another human being. In the past she had, had pets die or friends of the family, but no one as close as Mrs Trueman.

She could already picture in her head the funeral service and the words: Linda Trueman sadly passed away at the age of 86 while in her house. She will forever be remembered, rest in peace.

A tear rolled down Adaline's cheek as she laid in bed that night, alone wondering how something could happen and change things so quickly.
