Adaline sat in her room, laying flat on her stomach with her feet in the air, reading yet another book. While away although she had taken her book with her, strangely she never actually had time to read it as she was always more focused on other things..or other people should she say.
She tried to focus on reading Atonement by Ian McEwan, but all she had on her mind was Noah.
Noah, Noah, Noah flashing through her mind as she thought back to the past few weeks and how much went on, how somehow so much changed and coming back home felt strange now that so many new things had happened.
She sighed as she rested her head in her palm and wondered what Noah was doing right now, whether he had come back from being away and found out she'd gone. Wondering what he did when he realised they never got to say goodbye and wondering what he was thinking right now. Was he thinking about her? Desperately wishing she was there? No of course not, he probably just forgot about her and began to move on.
She fell back over onto her back and stared up at the ceiling instead, still trying to get him off her mind. She decided to text Evelyn, after arriving home earlier Evelyn had already come by and welcomed her home with apparently a lot of interesting stories to tell but she was more intrigued to know what went on with Adaline so Adaline filled her in on everything that went on.
Evelyn was over the moon to hear about Noah and finally know her best friend found happiness with someone even if it was short.
Adaline texted Evelyn to come over and decided the best way to distract herself was with a sleepover. Anytime she or Evelyn had any troubles they would always grab their sleeping bags and stay at one another's to comfort the other, it was just a little thing of there's they've always done.
A while later Evelyn turned up and her and Adaline sat in her room chatting about school and all the things they had gotten up to, Evelyn listed off all the guys she had, had flings with other the past weeks and Adaline not even surprised, nodded as the list went on and on. Her bestfriend was someone who managed to somehow get with every guy in Windenburg and she was sure there were only about 5 people left she hadn't had.
They laughed and chatted for a while, and Adaline finally began to forgot about Noah and get him off her mind. She tried to focus back to life here and school, as it would be starting again next week anyway. She sighed thinking back to how fun it was when she was in Devonarch and how it felt like so unreal out there.
But she pushed those thoughts back as she sat and watched as Evelyn stood on her bed holding a hair brush singing along terribly to the words of their favorite song. Adaline laughed as she watched her but she wasn't really listening, instead in her mind she was thinking about Noah again.
It was constant torture and she couldn't stop it no matter what. She had no idea why she was bothering to even be hopeful, she knew what had gone on between them but in the end it was only her who expressed her feelings, only her who told him she loved him. Instead all Noah did was kiss her which, at the time was enough but afterwards that's all she could think about was the fact he didn't say it back.
Probably because he didn't, he probably liked her a lot for that matter it seemed but she doubted he ever loved her. Because, surely if he did he would of told her..right?
The rain still poured down outside and the thunder rumbled as the storm worsened. This was by far the worst storm this town had, had for years.
..........
His wheels skidded slightly as he raced down the road closer to Windenburg. He was determined to get to Adaline and tell her how he felt, he regretted not telling her that day in field when she did but he was scared, he had never told anyone before and he didn't know what would happen. He didn't want to open himself up and admit his true feelings when he knew eventually it would be broken, it wouldn't last. It couldn't, it was too difficult. Living nearly a thousand miles away didn't exactly help in them being able to be together. The distance was too much and they would never work.
The sign passed him and Noah felt the determination build up more now knowing he was nearly there. Nearly at her house, where he could tell her how he felt finally once and for all. He dug his hand into his pocket and pulled out the soaked paper, which was basically falling apart and managed to read the smudging ink as 12 Carnabe Avenue.
He drove as fast as he could past the houses getting closer and closer to Adaline's. He wondered about how she would react seeing him again, would she run to him and kiss him or would she tell him to go and how he shouldn't of come.
Suddenly a small bit of doubt overtook his mind and he wondered if she would try to forget about him, try and move on because it would be too hard. What if he got here and she didn't want to see him, he had come all this way and she would just push him back.
He tried to get rid of those thoughts and focus on the positive ones as he neared closer to her house. In the distance he could make out the brick house and the red car parked outside and leant down as he fastened up towards it.
He zoomed down the road before spinning and stopping right outside in the road. As he stopped pushing the latch down onto his bike the storm came crashing down, thunder rumbling like mad.
