A few days went by and Adaline waited patiently trying to find the right time to tell Noah the news.
The problem was, Adaline could never find the right time. There was always something which stopped her from telling him, some other issue that got in the way.
It was always the same:
"I can't speak right now Ads, I've got a meeting to attend"
Or
"Can this wait till later? I'm kind of in a rush to get somewhere but I promise once I'm home we can talk"
But everytime he would come home, he'd either be too tired or the moment had passed and Adaline had lost that confidence to tell him the news.
So she was still battling with telling him the news, she so desperately wanted him to just know already and for her to know whether they would be okay or not.
......
It was Sunday night and Noah was working late still at the office. He had decided to go against his farm work and start getting into business instead. This was good, considering Adaline would be going to university at the end of the summer or not depending on the little thing brewing inside her belly. So having Noah working meant he was getting money to help them pay for their first house.
Evelyn had helped Adaline go to her first few scans and checkups to see how the baby was developing and they had all been going well.
The more times Adaline watched the woman pull the thing over her stomach and the machine give off a little heartbeat as she looked at the little baby growing inside, it began to feel more and more real.
Adaline decided that today was the day she was going to tell Noah, it had been long enough and she was beginning to show. Eventually the slightly baggy clothing was going to become obvious and she didn't want him to find out on his own.
"Ads I'm home!" Noah shouted as he came through the door.
Adaline didn't reply but instead stood by the kitchen counter, resting herself against it as she began to feel light headed panicking and second guessing telling him again.
"Adaline?" he questioned as he walked through the hallway and over to the kitchen where he spotted Adaline bent over the counter.
"Adaline, are you okay?" he said as he rushed over throwing his briefcase down onto the table and clasping his hands round her waist to support her.
"I'm..fine-I'm fine" she said as she retained herself and got back up turning round to face Noah.
"Really? You don't look okay you've gone really pale?" he asked shocked.
"No I'm fine really" she managed to say through deep breaths and she tried to push the nauseous feeling away.
"Alright..but this is the fifth time this week you've gone like this" Noah said.
Adaline didn't want to go into the topic again so decided to just change the subject completely.
"I was going to make a casserole for dinner but I don't really feel like I'll be able to stand for long.." Adaline said as she sat herself down at the table taking deep breaths.
"Look, forget dinner you're clearly not well. Have you been to the doctors?" Noah asked as he sat opposite Adaline.
"No..I don't- I don't need to" she said and Noah scoffed.
"You don't need to? Adaline theres clearly something wrong, what do you mean you don't need to?" Noah snapped back.
"Noah, look I said I'm fine. I don't need to go to the doctors, it's nothing, I just feel a little light headed that's all" Adaline snapped back getting annoyed at Noah for beginning to get annoyed.
"You're not fine! There is something wrong and you need to go to the doctors. How are you going to go to university if you're like this nearly all the time? I can't be the only one in this household who is out doing something!" Noah shouted.
Adaline suddenly got a sharp pain in her chest and stopped. Had Noah really just said that? Does he mean that? What happens when she tells him she's pregnant then she'll have to stay at home? And he'll have to be the only one in their household who is out doing something. If he so badly doesn't want that to happen then he clearly doesn't want a baby.
"And if you were?" Adaline shouted back.
"What?" Noah questioned.
"And if you were the only one of us who had a job? What would you do? Would you leave me?" Adaline snapped back.
"Leave you? Adaline what are you going on about?" Noah asked back confused.
"Answer the question." She snapped back.
"Would..you..leave..me?" She asked as she stayed put, feeling the tears prick at her eyes.
"I Uh- I" Noah went to say clearly baffled by it all not knowing how to answer.
"That's all I need to hear" she said as she stormed off up the stairs to their bedroom where she had already prepacked a bag incase Noah answered the way she assumed he would.
"Adaline, wait where are you going?" Noah shouted as he rushed up the stairs and stopped dead in his tracks as he watched her stuffing one last thing into the case before zipping it up, slamming it down forcefully onto the floor and walking towards Noah.
"My parents house" Adaline replied.
"Adaline? You're- you're leaving? Why- why are you leaving. Is it because of what I said?" Noah shouted his voice breaking as he watched her walk towards him, dragging the case behind her.
"It's what you didn't say." She snapped back as she shoved past him and down the stairs before leaving slamming the door behind her.
Noah just slumped down onto the stairs putting his head into his hands as he tried to think about what he had done wrong. What he had done which made Adaline leave. How had he ruined the one thing he had.
Why had she left?
