UNTIL THE END

Chapter Thirty

A car horn beeped outside as Adaline peered out the window and noticed her parents walking up from the car to the porch.

She let out a sigh as she turned back to see her suitcases already packed in the corner of the little room. It felt so surreal she was actually going home and it was only until last night that it started to actually feel real.

She made her way downstairs saying goodbye to all the family, smiling to them as she walked down the steps towards the car still hoping for that iconic movie moment of Noah running up the road to stop her before she left.

But no, the road was empty and there was no one. She put her suitcase into the boot before climbing into the back seat and gazing out the window back at the farm house where her Aunt, Uncle, Charlotte and Oliver all stood together waving goodbye. Her parents climbed in the front and buckled their seatbelts.

"Ready to go Ads?" Her father said as he turned round to see her sat with her legs up against the door and she gave him a small nod.

She wasn't ready to go at all, she wanted to scream and make a fuss and run back inside and force herself to stay here forever but she knew she couldn't. She had to go back home for school she couldn't stay out here forever, eventually she'd have to go home she just wished it wasn't so soon.

They pulled off and began to drive away as everyone waved goodbye by the door step. She gazed back as she watched them gradually begin to disappear, sighing before putting her earphones in and playing her music as she rested her head in her hand and peered out of the window watching the familiar fields simmer by.

Unaware as Adaline drove along the windy country road back towards her home town of Windenburg back by the farm house suddenly someone came rushing down the road from the corner a little too late.

Noah ran up panting to the house seeing the family go back inside and Aunt Carol, the last to go in, turned feeling a sudden presence and saw Noah stood by the road as he looked, his face in panic as she stared at him wondering what he was doing.

"Noah?!" Aunt Carol said confused on the sudden appearance of the boy.

"Am I too late?!" Noah said panting as he looked around frantically to see if Adaline was still here.

"Char..Charlotte told me about Adaline going home early. So..so I rushed here as fast as I could. Luckily we finished the job quicker and came back early too" Noah tried to speak still trying to catch his breath from running the whole way there.

"I'm sorry Noah, you're too late, they already left" Aunt Carol said sighing feeling sorrow for Noah.

"What? No..no I didn't- we didn't get to say goodbye" Noah said in utter disbelief. He just let his arms sink down by his side feeling defeat that Adaline had gone before they could even say goodbye.

"Oh Noah" Aunt Carol said sighing as she stepped down and rubbed his arm reassuringly.

"You'll see her again, don't you worry. Now why don't you come inside, there's a storm coming soon" Aunt Carol added before she turned and walked back inside and Noah waited a moment stood alone.

He waited a moment thinking about what Aunt Carol had said before he turned and followed inside having a plan. He remembered back to what he had told Adaline that day at the fields and how he had a way to get to her. It was a rare chance and he thought maybe he could catch her before they got too far but he had to escape away carefully.

With the storm coming he doubted Adaline's Aunt was going to let him go outside in it, probably say it was too dangerous but he didn't care. He knew he had to get to Adaline so he was going to anyway, it was worth it he needed to see her. He thought about what would happen when he got to her house and saw her and what she'd do or what he'd do.

He sighed as he sat at the kitchen table with Aunt Carol mumbling away as the rumbling of thunder was heard outside and it began to rain.
