The world was black the day Eren Jaeger died.

Rain poured, the skies crying for the boy who knew he could not live forever.

He stared to the man beside him, smiling though the matter at hand was nothing to smile about.

"Thank you... For evething. I don't believe in reincarnation you know," he started, green eyes trailing down to the sand beneath his feet. It was dark from the rain, stained so it wouldn't show its usual hold. "But I hope if I do have another life I can see you again. And thank you for bringing me here."

The man beside him just nodded his head, dark eyes watching the waves as they rolled up the shore.

His hood was drawn high while Eren's was dropped back.

"And I want you to know now... " His hands moved to grab the others though the chains around his wrists clanged, making the only other sound beside the rain and the sea. "I am not upset."

That was when everything became black.

The man turned and asked for Eren to turn around, facing the sea as he kneeled.

"No," Eren said, looking to try and see the man's face as he stood there like stone, cold and unmoving. "I want to see you one last time."

The raven slowly removed his hood and stared at Eren with eyes, so dark and so dead they could have sent any other man running to get away from the darkness. It was so bleak. So hopeless.

"Thank you. Now I'll kneel." Eren moved so he was facing away from the man, his chains jangling together again as he sighed heavily. He finally got to see the ocean atleast...

The man behind him took a sharp breath. His hand rose with the blade he had unsheathed slowly and it shook dangerously in his hand. He shut his eyes tight, as if to push this feeling away.

Then Eren spoke once more.

"I'll always love you, Levi."

It took all his willpower to land the deadly blow and end it.

Days. Weeks. Months.

Levi didn't know anymore. He lived his days like a shell, moving about and doing his duties almost mechanically. His eyes grew shadowed, even more so then before. And his nights were filled with terror. Darkness seeping into him and destroying him from the inside out. He didn't know what to do with himself.

This morning was the worst so far.

The first time he felt like this was the day after Eren's execution. He couldn't move any part of his body. He couldn't even feels his legs. The numbness only spread further when Erwin sent in Hanji to check in on him and she tried to get him moving. It almost choked him.

They slowly learned when he was like this it was better for him to stay in bed and push through it.

Sometimes that meant crying for hours on end. Sometimes it just meant laying there til the pain went away, blankly staring at the ceiling off his room. He hated his bed. He used to never sleep in it but after that day, it was the only place that still smelt like Eren in his room. When that started to fade was when things got worse.

Now, he was laying, broken in his bed with his eyes shut tight.

He couldn't even bare to open them for fear of crying. Levi didn't show emotion so easily. Sure, he was empathic on an almost dangerous level sometimes and would deal with the pressures of others alone and hold their pains and wishes with them if they died on a mission if they came to him with troubles, but now? Now he was this husk of a man. A soldier who couldn't even fight his own demons.
