Levi's POV

I couldn't believe it. I just... Couldn't. Rushing into our bedroom, I searched through everything til I found them. Under the floorboards near my side of the bed. The box Mikasa had given me so long ago to keep them in. I set it to the floor and reset the floorboards.

As I grasped for the letters, digging through the box, the fireplace's auburn glow filled the room. My hands shook, but I removed them and clutched them to my chest.

"I saved every letter you wrote me..." I whispered to the air.

From the moment I read them, I knew you were mine, you said you were mine, I thought you were mine...

"Do you know Mikasa said? When we saw your first letter arrived?" I asked, rasping as I felt my shoulders shake.

"Be careful with that one, love," Mikasa had said to me softly, my shoulders drawn forward as I hunched over the desk, reading your letter as if I was reading Thomas Pane.

"He will do what it takes to survive." I had laughed it off since she'd been the one to offer we start a haram with my suitor... With you.

You and your words flooded my senses... I opened the letters. You and your sentences left me defenceless, you built me palaces out of paragraphs, you hilt cathedrals...

I'm rereading the letters you wrote me... I'm searching and scannin for answersg through every line. For some sort of sign, of when you were mine, the world seemed to...

I looked to fireplace.

Burn.

I stared at the words on the page but they all started to blur. Paper and ink. Words. They meant nothing compared to actions. Tears filtered past my grey eyes.

"You published the letters she wrote you," my lips quivered as I stammered the words out. "You told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed."

In clearing your name you have ruined our lives...

I thought to the girl you'd slept with... Annie Leonhardt.

"Do you know what Mikasa said? When she'd read what you done?"

She said, "You've married an Icarus... he had flown too close to the sun."

And I did not cry. Not then. Not even with my closest companion right there.

"You and your words obsessed with your legacy..." I hissed, standing up with the letters clutched to my breast, my skirts swishing agaisnt the chair as I neared the fireplace.

"Your sentences border on senseless! And you are paranoid in every paragraph!"

I felt the tear start to grow hotter but they did not spill.

"On how they perceive you, you, you, you..." I held the letters tighter, hesitating for barely a second before doing it.

What I should have done as soon as I found out.

"I'm ... erasing myself from the narrative. Let future historians wonder how Levi reacted when you broke his heart..." My hands didn't shake as held the letters up, the flames licking upward but barely touching.
