Lola blanked. Her vision was getting blurrier and she got dizzier. Her mind was slipping into an abyss of confusion and anxiety. What could she do? Was this going to change her life?
Maybe, she really was worthless.
She looks at Riley with sorrowful eyes. Looking at her with confusion, his face slowly twists into an understanding one after glancing at the piece of paper.
Her breathing was shallow. Inhale. Exhale. The air flow was shaky as she continues to repeat those words in her mind.
Lola knows it's pathetic that she is getting upset over a stupid grade. But, these things mean a lot to her. It's the only thing she's good for. Being smart is all she has. This test was 13% of her final mark as well.
It would hurt anyone else if their one talent was reduced to something you couldn't even imagine. Like a professional tennis player suddenly missing the winning hit, the one that got them the championships. Or an artist messing up one stroke of a painting and having to start over. Then, they weren't able to qualify for a life changing contest.
She raises her hand and excuses herself to go to the washroom.
It's there where she breaks down and cries for the rest of the class. The teacher never came. No one did.
