Crickets hummed in the midst of the night as Lola dealt with the demons swirling through her mind. Though, she was troubled by what has been happening along with what she's going to do about Riley now, the creatures pushed that away from her mind. She was in such unbearable pain that it was impossible to think of something as puny as other people.

They kept whispering in her ear as she lay there frozen, completely unable to move her body. She was so paralyzed that she kept focusing in and out of the world. It felt like she was on the edge of fainting but also like her eyes were going to start spewing tears.

Life seemed so short, yet she was spending it mostly in school and dealing with things like this. But, her life was so ordinary and unprivileged that she couldn't do anything to make her time worthwhile. How was she supposed to make the most of her life if her mother couldn't let her? They simply didn't have the money for that.

Lola squeezed her eyes shut as tears pricked in the corners of her eyes. Her throat was now becoming unimaginably dry as she shook against the bed. Her head was shaking and her hands covering her ears.
