Lola goes home in silence, The utter dread sinking into her mind as she treads through the white tainted soil. Her boots break through the layers of ice, creating a satisfying crunching noise. It gradually eased her depressed mood slightly, but still it wavers.
She makes it home and visibly gulps. It was obvious she was not ready to tell her mom the bad news. Lola was absolutely horrified to witness her reaction. She knows that her mother will be okay with it and only help her in the end but she still had that lurking doubt.
Walking into the home, her mother greets her with a smile. They exchange hugs as usual and eat at the dining table.
As Lola picks at her meatloaf out of pure boredom, her mother tilts her head. Her grand grin was still prominently planted upon her lips.
"Is there something wrong?" she asks in her smooth, gentle voice.
Lola simply shakes her head whilst reflecting the same toothy smile her mom was giving her.
They go through the day in peace and she never once tells her mom about the test stationed in her backpack.
