It had been a month, a whole long dreaded month since Victoria and Riley's breakup. During that time, Victoria started to get disconnected from the world. She missed more days in school and she didn't text as often. But, when she did, she assured Lola she was alright and not to worry. However, Lola still felt conflicted.
The days she did come to school, Samantha would torment her and Riley wouldn't do a thing to stop it. She would laugh, call her names and sometimes even hurt her when Lola wasn't there. Samantha would even get her other friends, like Tyra to help bully her. Of course, Lola would defend her friend and throw punches when necessary, but, she felt like it wasn't enough.
Victoria seemed to be falling deeper and deeper into this hole of sadness. This hole separated her from everything. The funny thing is, Lola's anxiety for school and death seemed to fade away as she now faced the fear of not being able to do enough for her friend. She was so scared she wouldn't be able to help her cope.
Every time they meet, she sees more slashes on her skin. She cries and asks why but she just blames it on her cat. Lola wallows in her despair thinking continuously about why her best friend didn't trust her enough.
Eventually, she told Victoria's mother, but, she didn't believe her. Lola pushed and pushed and finally she agreed to keep an eye on her. She even called the police but they didn't do anything. All they said was to keep an eye on her and that they can't do anything without confirmation from Victoria or her family she is suicidal.
So, Lola lived her days in constant worry and all her focus was devoted to Victoria. Then, the call came.
