I jumped up and threw myself into his arms and he hugged me tightly lifting me up a little.

" why are you here? I asked.

He puts me down and adjusted his shirt. " I figured since I couldn't bring you to school this morning, I should drive you home. So I will be the first one to hear about David's first day in secondary school. "

I smiled and look at my dad, I was glad to see him. I realized I had missed him, he had been busy these few days.

" let's go pick David then " I said.

" I've picked him already. He's in the car " my dad replied
" he was mad at me at first but he forgave me when he saw what I got for him "

" what is it ? I asked excited

" wait and see " my dad said smiling

I picked my bag and held my dad's arm as we walked to his car.
When I got in, my brother was smiling and eating something
" kilishi !!!

" dad you bought kilishi for him where's mine?

" I bought one for you too honey " he said

I smiled. " your the best dad in the world "

My dad nodded at me and started the car.
" how's your first day David? He asked.

My brother sighed. " it was owk "
" I know some of the students and there are about 9 of us from my primary school "

" wow that's good, at least you'll have familiar faces to make friends with " my dad reasoned.

" yeah " I agreed.

" so you like your new school?  my dad asked him.

" I just enrolled dad "

" OK then, Sarah how's your day ?

" it was cool dad " I replied not been honest.
" how's work  dad ? I asked him.

He sighed. " I lost a patient today "
I noticed his hands grew stern on the steering wheel.

" it's not your fault dad " I said.
"  I'm sure you did all your best "

He turned to look at me and nodded.

" what was wrong with the patient? I asked

" problems with delivery, we had to perform an emergency operation. she was brought in late, she had a lot of complications. " my dad replied sorrowfully.

" that's tragic " I said.

" yea, and it could have been prevented. You see Sarah they patient was a young unmarried girl who ran away from home when she was pregnant, she had been living on her own since then. She never came for anti-natal and when she was due she wanted giving birth at home, they only brought her to the hospital when she started bleeding. There was nothing we could do. " my dad explained.

" so it was an emergency situation."

" yes. " he replied.

" how was your scheduled operation? I asked.

" it was successful " he said and heaved a sigh of relief.

" so what's going to happen to the baby? David asked quietly

I turned and looked at him, I didn't realize he was following our conversation.

" the child is under intensive care in the hospital, he will be there till they locate the girl's parents " my dad answered him

" how old was she " I asked.

" seventeen Sarah " dad answered and there was sorrow in his eyes.
" she was just a kid, just like you."

I felt ice cold, a shiver ran through me, I wondered how she coped all this while.  Taking care of herself and the pregnancy alone, she must have gone through hell. And now she has left her child alone too.
What will become of the child I couldn't imagine.
This world is full of uncertainty........
