chapter fourty nine

Sarah's POV

We chatted with the twins while Steven was changing in his room, they too won't tell me what happened. Micah talked excitingly but Michael was in this sore mood that he has been in these days.
When Steven was done dressing, we all went out together. By now the atmosphere outside had changed, it was getting dark already and the music was louder, the lights were on and the place was looking more beautiful. I saw Rita with J-bee together dancing, I saw some of my classmates, Silver and his friends were all together, there was no girl with them and I was surprised. Micah went to meet someone and then Steven, Michael and I found a place to sit down.
We stayed there for a while till Rita and J-bee came to join us, I was about to go dance with Steven when my phone rang.
I excused myself to go find somewhere quiet to pick my call.
I went to the far end of the house near the fence, there was a garden there and it was dark but I could still see how beautiful it was. I went close to the fence of the garden and made my call.
It was one of my mum's brothers, he wanted to invite me and my brother to his house on Sunday, I quickly agreed because it has been a while since I went to see him which was when his wife had given birth to their first child. I told him it will be our pleasure and we're looking forward to seeing how big the baby had grown.
I smiled when I ended the call I turned to go but was taken aback by the figure before me. I drew a long breath when I realized who it was.
" what the...........huh you almost made my heart stop "

"Oh I'm so sorry Sarah I didn't mean to scare you, I thought you heard me come " Alex said

" I didn't"  I was too excited about my call "

" oh owk. So hope you're having a good time?

" yea "I said wondering why he was asking.

" I just wanted to talk to you, that's why I followed you. "

I nodded, not really comfortable with talking to him but I wanted to hear what he had to say. I knew it has to be about Sam cos I don't think we have anything else to talk about.

" I know Sam must have told you a lot of bad stuffs about me, and I am not about to deny that I'm not all he said. I just want to talk about you "

" what about me?

" when I threatened Sam, I was furious. I told him I was going to hurt anyone he loved, I knew how much he loved you then, even though he was always cheating on you. I wanted to hurt him so bad I didn't stop to think how it will affect other people, I just wanted my revenge. Sam broke up with you because he was afraid of what I might do to you, but the truth is I never planned on hurting you " he looked me straight in the eye.
His eyes were cold, it was hard to see any emotion in there or to guess what he was thinking.

" you weren't going to hurt me?

" yes Sarah. I have known you since Sam started dating you, if I wanted to hurt you, I would have done that a long time ago. "

I sighed. " but what if he had not broken up with me?

" I planned on exposing him, showing you the truth about who you were dating and wait for you to break up with him."

" just so you could hurt him?

" yes. You have no idea how much I want to see him suffer. I was out to really get back at him. But then I didn't stop to think of you, I didn't consider your feelings and how the break up will affect you. I wanted to hurt Sam and yes I did but in the process I end up hurting you too. Steven told me how miserable you had been after the break up, for that Sarah I am sorry "

I was amazed, Alex didn't look like a guy who would apologize for anything. And even now his face was still stern like the apology was coming from someone else. I was silent and just stared at him.
He continued " I'm sorry for causing you so much pain "

" did Steven put you up to this? I asked.

" you think Steven can make me apologize even when I don't want to? He just pointed out to me where I was wrong. "

" ok. Apology accepted. It's all in the past now, I've moved on "

" Yea I can see. And Sam seems to think you been with Steven is my doing. But the truth is I was shocked when Steven told me about his feelings for you. "

" not only that, he thinks you are using Steven to hurt me "

He laughed. It was dry but at the same time funny. " I don't need Steven to hurt someone "

" what was the misunderstanding about?  You and Sam?

" Sarah you don't need to know " he said turning to go " we should go back to the party "

" he said it was because of your girlfriend " I said quickly

He laughed again, this time coming close to me, he looked into my eyes. " do I look like someone that will fight over a girl "

" I don't know " I said shaking my head slowly

" I don't date Sarah.  Sam and I have come a long way, it's bigger than you think."

" well I don't want to know anymore, after all it's none of my business. " I said as I walked pass him.

" Sarah "

I turned and saw him smiling. It was a small smile, just the corner of his mouth but it made his face ease a lot and he actually looked younger than I thought he was a while ago.
" I did you a favor you know "

" how?

" you and I both know Sam was not good for you, he was going to destroy you. Steven has changed, I can see it. You will be better off with him, he really loves you. "

I smiled. " I know "

" but a little advice for you, don't ever love a guy the way you did with Sam "

I quirked my eyebrow at him.

" when a girl loves a guy to the extend she does everything he wants, it's bad for her, especially if the guy knows it. You might end up ruining yourself. I saw you do that with Sam"

I just nodded without saying anything

I went back and found Steven dancing, I smiled and watched him. Most of his guys from Concordia were dancing with him too, I was surprised I didn't know he could dance this much.
I saw Michael sitting on the couch drinking, Rita was dancing with J-bee and she waved and smiled at me. Almost everyone was dancing, I went to get a drink and met Micah with a girl there. I smiled and shake my head at him.
After getting my drink I was about to go back when someone grabbed my waist and held me from behind
" you took too long " Steven whispered into my ears.

I turned to face him " I didn't know you were such a great dancer "

" you're not bad yourself " he said smiling.
