My eyes widened, my mouth falling open. I felt my heart start to beat faster, the blood rush down from my face, and I started to shake a little.
The door knob rattled again, and my dad pounding his fist on the door, yelling, "Alexis! Open this door right now! I command you to!"
I turned to Jake, who was looking at me with a worried expression. He could probably feel the fear oozing out of me.
"It's going to be okay," he murmured, stroking my cheek with the back of his hand. "I would rather die than let him hurt another hair on your head."
I looked up at Jake with wide eyes, most likely filled with fear. "Promise?" I whispered.
Jake kissed me softly, looking into my eyes while he replied, "I promise." He voice rang with honesty, with a promise he intended to keep.
"Alexis, dammit! OPEN. THE. F*CKING. DOOR!" My dad's pounding came louder, faster. "Open the door, or I swear, I'll call the cops."
I walked over until I was right in front of the door, Jake next to me, ready to jump in front of me at a moment's notice. Taking a deep breath, I opened the door, finally let it all out in one big rush.
My dad's clenched fist was raised, about to bang on the door again. His face was red, and he looked really really mad.
"What the f*ck are you f*cking doing?! Are you that much of a whore that you can't stop to even open the door?!" He yelled, his breath smelling like alcohol. Great, he was drunk.
I didn't reply, looking down.
"ANSWER ME!" He roared, hand flying up to smack my cheek.
I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the pain. But it never came. Cracking an eye open a little, I gasped, my eyes flying wide open.
Jake's hand had grabbed my dad's hand before it could come in contact with me. Looking at Jake, I noticed how his usual brown eyes that twinkled with laughter were now as hard as wood. He was staring at my dad with a look filled with pure hatred.
My dad narrowed his eyes, raising his other hand, intending to punch Jake. Jake swiftly caught it as it was getting closer to him, holding both of my dad's hands in one hand and punching my dad in the stomach with his free hand.
"You don't to deserve to breath the same air as Lex, let alone be her f*cking father!" Jake told my dad coldly, punching him in the stomach again.
My dad's eyes flashed. "Why you little-"
Jake let go of my dad's hands, punching him in the process. "What? What were you gonna tell me?"
"Fine," my dad spat out. "Have fun with that little c**ksucker."
With that, he went downstairs, got in his car, and sped away. I stood there, in the doorway, speechless.
"Lex?" Jake asked, tugging my chin up gently so he would be able to see my face. "Are you... Are you okay?"
I nodded, not trusting my words right now.
"Really?" Jake asked again.
Again, I nodded.
Jake stared at me, waiting for me to speak.
"I... I just- I've never seen him storm off like that... I guess I was just... Shocked," I mumbled, mostly to myself, although Jake heard me.
"It's alright, Lex," Jake rubbed my shoulder soothingly. "He'll eventually come back and stop acting like an ass. I just hope that he won't try to fight me every time he sees me."
