He left. When Jake and I got to the hospital after lunchtime, he... He was gone. I had asked Lisa what happened, and she said he woke up this morning, perfectly normal and fine. He woke up, the doctor checked him and said he was fine to leave, and that's exactly what he did. He left. I'm not sure how that happened, but it seemed to me like he was sleeping rather than in a coma.

The worst part was that while I was feeling sick to my stomach, worrying about him, he decided to leave me. Again.

Since there was no use for Jake and I to be in the hospital anymore, we left, going to the park. I just sat down on the swing, gently swinging myself, staying silent.

I could feel Jake's worried glances at me time after time. I could also see him looking at me from the corner of my eye. He wasn't be too discreet about it.

I finally looked up, meeting Jake's eyes. "Yes?" I asked.

Jake looked away, mumbling something.

"I'm sorry, what?" I didn't understand what Jake had said. I thought I heard him say something about 'pooing'.

"How're you doing?" Jake asked, looking up at me.

Oh. So that's what he said. I shrugged. "I guess I'm fine. I mean, I should've seen that coming; it was expected."

"Expected?" Jake asked, confused. "What do you mean?"

I sighed. "Well, after my mom died, that's all my dad's been doing. He practically removed himself from my life; I barely get to see him. When I do see him, it's only for a while before he leaves again."

Jake's eyes widened. "Oh, sorry for asking."

I shook my head. "It's nothing, really."

"Do you want to get some ice cream?" Jake asked suddenly.

"What?" I asked.

"Do you want ice cream?" Jake asked me again.

"Um..." I thought for a moment. "Sure, I guess."

"C'mon," Jake said, taking my hand in his and walking us out of the park to the small ice cream shop across the street.

The little bell jingled, signalling that the door was opened. I looked around, the place only had a few people, but it gave a nice and cozy feeling that reminded me of home.

"So what do you want?" Jake asked, tugging me to the counter. "They have chocolate, strawberry, mocha, vanilla, mint, cheesecake, s'mores-"

I chuckled a little, holding up a hand to stop Jake. "Y'know, ice cream doesn't solve problems," I pointed out. I knew he was trying to make me forget about my dad, using ice cream as a distraction.

Jake just grinned sheepishly at me. "Well..."

"Hi, kids, what would you like today?" A lady in her late 40's asked us.

I looked at Jake, silently telling him to go first.

"I'll have one of you banana splits," Jake told her.

"What flavors of ice cream?" She asked, getting all of the stuff.

"Just vanilla."

"And you, sweetie?" The lady asked, turning to me.

I studied the overhead menu, finally deciding what I wanted. "I'll just have a scoop of the Mocha ice cream, please."

"Make it two scoops," Jake told the lady.
