She paused, staying silent for a while.

I frowned, wondering if we accidentally got cut off or something. I pulled the phone away, checking to make sure that the call was still going. It was.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Oh, yes. Well... It's about your father," she told me.

"What about... him?" I asked slowly.

"Wellhewasinacaraccidentandwefoundoutthathewasdrivingwhiledrunk," she took a deep breath before rushing out incoherent babble again. "HewasrushedtotheERandisnowintheICU,soI'mcallingtomakesurethatyou'reinformedsothatyoumaycomehereassoonaspossible."

I shook my head, totally and utterly confused. "I'm sorry, what?"

I heard Lisa take another deep breath. "Well, he was in a car accident and we found out that he was driving while drunk. He was rushed to the ER and is now in the ICU, so I'm calling to make sure that you're informed so that you may come here as soon as possible."

All the breath rushed out of me. I'm pretty sure that I fell backwards onto the couch, but I don't remember myself falling. My hands started to shake, and no words could pass through my mouth.

Jake took one look at me before taking the phone from me. I sat forward, putting my hands in my hair, grabbing a bunch of hair in each hand.

This can't be possible. Dad knows better than to drive while he's drunk. He... It... I was at a lost for words even in my mind.

Jake started to mumble softly into the phone, staying quiet sometimes and glancing over a me every couple of seconds, giving me a worried look.

"Alright, we'll be there as soon as possible," Jake said into the phone firmly. Ending the call, Jake took my hand, tugging me towards the car.

We both got into the car, Jake pulling out of the garage and heading straight towards the hospital. I'm pretty sure that Jake was speeding, but I didn't know for sure. I was just staring blankly out of the car window, watching the scenery but not seeing anything at all.

Suddenly, the car jerked to a stop. I turned to Jake, who was staring back at me, questioningly.

"We're here," Jake announced.

I nodded, taking a deep breath. We both got out of the car, walking hand-in-hand to the hospital. When we got to the front desk, Lisa was waiting there, talking to the worker at the front desk.

When she saw us, she finished talking to the worker and signalled us to follow her, walking towards the elevator. Once we got up to the floor my dad was in, we stepped out. His room was pretty close to the elevator, so in no time at all we were standing in front of his door.

"How is he?" I asked quietly.

She shook her head, giving me a sympathetic look. "He hasn't woken up yet."

I looked at her questioningly. "Hasn't woken... Up yet?"

"He's in a coma."

I backed away slowly, until I felt the wall on my back. I slowly slid down, resting my hands on my knees, shaking my head. "He... He can't be."

Lisa and Jake shared a look, before Lis silently walked away. Jake came over and sat down next to me.
