Jake's POV
I had to shift the cat food to my other arm as I dug through my pocket, looking for the key. I noticed that Lex had stiffened up slightly. I glanced down at her worriedly.
She was shaking a little, and her face was pale. It started when she had some sort of panic attack outside of Spencer's house.
She didn't wanna tell me what it was about, but I could tell that something happened to her. Her eyes had a faraway look, and after a while, they started to get glassy with tears. Lex huddled into a ball and she kept murmuring 'stop, stop, please stop'.
Judging by the way she acted with the news Spencer told her about her dad, I would bet my whole life savings that her dad did something to her before. I don't know what, but I'll find out soon enough.
I had unlocked the door and was about to open it, when it opened. There, in the doorway, stood Lex's dad. I've only seen him once, when I first met Lex, and he looked... different, to say the least. When I first met him, he was like a regular parent. Now, he looked pissed as hell and a little disoriented. I would guess that he was drunk.
Lex took a step back, whimpering softly as she tugged on my sleeve. I took a step back also, gently pushing Lex behind me.
Connecting two and two, I figured out that Lex's dad must've done something to her when he was drunk. Probably beat her, or- I tried not to think about the other thing he could've done to her. I took a couple of deep breaths, only looking up to him when he started talking.
"Who're you?" He asked, his speech slurred a little.
Yup. Definitely drunk.
"Jake, Jake Highland. We met already, sir. I'm staying here to keep your daughter company." I told him as politely as I could, teeth clenched tightly. I dropped the bag of cat food inside of the house, barely missing Lex's dad's foot.
Suddenly, he barked out a laugh. "Right, right. So how's my daughter?"
"She's good," I replied tensely.
"Good, good. I don't want her to be a bigger disappointment than she already is. Wooh, about a month, and already my whore-of-a-daughter got you laid?" He barked out another laugh.
Without turning around the see Lex, I knew that she had stiffened up.
A growl rumbled through me. I was so close to beat him up; I was already seeing spots of red.
"She's not a whore. We haven't done anything. And she is not a disappointment- you are." I told him, punching him in the nose.
He yelped, stumbling back and tripping over his own feet, causing him to fall. His head hit the floor with a nasty-sounding 'thump'. I'm pretty sure he passed out.
I heard Lex gasp from behind me. She clung to my sleeve, stopping me from going over to her dad and giving him what he deserves.
"Jake," Lex said softly.
I turned around, calming down when I saw her.
"C'mon. Let's go upstairs with our stuff before he wakes up. I don't-" She cut herself off, quickly turning from me and heading to the car.
I quickly followed, stopping her right before she started taking the suitcases out of the back of the car. Taking one look at her, I hugged her to my chest, tightening my arms around her.
