Hey hey.
So I know I don't normally update two days in a row here, but I wanted to talk about something really quickly.
May not be quick and I don't normally update this one from my laptop, but things happen and I needed to say something on this. This whole thing is becoming rants my God.
So people who know me well will know that I really hate when people come up with fucking stupid names for their OCs in their fanfics. It's mainly fanfics that I see it in, as most non-fanfic stories have properly named characters.
What sparked this today? I hear you ask. Well that's a good question.
I've been searching for a story I read a while ago and realised that I never put it in one of my reading lists and I wanted to add it, but I've searched my library and archived multiple times and it's not there, so I've had to go on a search for it.
It's probably going to take me a while because I can't remember what it was called or who wrote it so...go me. It was a while ago.
Anyway, I was looking under the 'olisykes' tag and whatnot because that's what it should be under seeing as he was the lead role and it was a great story. I hope I find it again.
Now, I've come across some fucking brilliant names that people call their OCs and I don't wanna diss anyone for the names they choose for their characters, as they're your characters and who am I to judge?
Until today, Snow and Cinnamon were the best names I'd ever come across.
While browsing through the 'olisykes' tag, I stumbled across the best fucking name I've ever seen.
What possesses someone to name their character 'Train'? Now, I didn't read the story because it's not the one I was looking for, but what the actual fuck?? Like I struggle to understand why anyone would name someone Snow or Cinnamon, but fucking Train? Should I read the story to understand why they're parents named them Train?
I'm so confused but also amused.
Granted, in one of my stories I haven't touched in a while, my lead was named London, but that's more fucking plausible than Train! London is an actual name for people just so you know. I can't take a character seriously if they have a fucking weird name like that.
My favourites I see everywhere: Blade and Lyric.
Granted, Lyric is an actual name as well, like Melody but it's not as common as something like Maddison or Abel. What seriously possesses people to name their OCs something stupid that no-one in their right minds would ever name their children in real life? Yes there are some stupid names out in the real world, but not some that I've seen.
Is it so hard to get online and go to the name websites (like yours truly uses) and find a real name that actually sounds legit?
These characters that have fucking weird names also never get picked on. They're normally about 17 years old so they're in school and they're also usually emo or goth or whatever you wanna call them. Whatever's politically correct. It's always the emo kids that have the stupid names, not the friends or teachers or other characters.
Their siblings never have weird names, do they? You name your first child fucking idk, Driveway or some bullshit and their younger brother is Tom or Jimmy, or their sister is Belinda, or Marian. Maybe they're the second child who has a stupid name and their older brother or sister has the normal name.
Seriously, I would never even consider naming an OC an unusual name that I wouldn't see outside of the internet and fanfic.
I don't know about you guys, but I don't know anyone outside or inside the internet name fucking Notebook or Plastic. I don't fucking know anyone like that and if I did, what the hell? Granted, someone I know named Chris has a full name of Christmas, but that's not as fucking strange!! It's odd, but it's still not fucking Wardrobe or Desk or fucking Drawer!
