Heyo. Me again. Surprise, surprise! I bet you were surprised that it's me. Ha.
Anyway, what are we discussing on this totally normal and not important day whatsoever, right?
Well dear reader, I'm glad you're wondering and would like to know what I'm talking about.
As per the title, I'm sure you've already got an idea of what it is we will be discussing within these virtual pages.
It's early. I have things to do. I will definitely upload this today though, because I wanna. Probably over breakfast after I've been to the gym.
Sounds good. Let's talk.
101 parts later and we're still talking about writing.
So something got me thinking (must've been last week) when I was writing one of my newer stories (yes, I'm trying very hard to finish off ones that need finishing; I can't help the new stories), and it's from first person POV.
What got me thinking was the way I did the POV change.
Now, if you've read any of my first person stories, you'll know that I try very hard to not sporadically change the POV; I try to keep it long between the changes because otherwise it gets really confusing.
A story I've been working on recently, I'm making it my goal to not change POV and have it all the one person. It's going well. Very well.
We all know that some writers on here tend to change the POV way too much and too quickly; it takes you out of the story and it gets confusing as to what's happening when.
I don't know about you, but I don't like stories being confusing due to POV changes.
So I've written POV changes about three ways I think I discovered. Obviously it's different for each story (as best I can), but what I mean is that I've written the 'warning' of the POV change three different ways, not including things like italics or bold or underline and whatnot.
My examples are as follows:
Andy's Point of View
Followed by:
Andy's POV
Which is then followed by:
Andy
My main question is this:
Which do you prefer and why?
I'm genuinely curiosity because sometimes, depending on the story, sometimes the third option is great.
Just stating the character's name for a POV change can work and sometimes you need the full 'point of view' or 'POV' thing, you know?
I find that I tend to use the first one the most. Very rarely do I use the second; I think I've only ever done it once.
The third option I've used at least once (go find which story on here has it).
I got thinking about this when writing my newer story because one of the characters has a longer name and so it took up a bit more space writing it the first way and I was thinking maybe I should've opted for the third option.
But alas, it is too late now. It is already written.
What're your thoughts on this? Also, which one do you prefer and why?
