Hiya.

Now hear me out.

I was looking through my newsfeed an hour or so ago and saw something that's made me wanna write something here because it's something I've never really talked about when it comes down to it.

Just kickstarted my reasoning to write it.

Ok so fanfic, right? Amirite?

I've touched on OCs, MCs, character names, AUs, CUs, and all in between. Well not really but whatevs.

But this' a new topic for me to discuss and I thought you'd like to hear what I have to say.
It's not so much of a rant or whatever, it's just like, not even an opinion but something that came to my deranged mind as I was looking at what was what in my newsfeed and what people were reading.

So someone was reading a fanfic today of M. Shadows and it was like 'M. Shadows' Sister' or something like that.
So like... his actual sister or...?

It's funny how in so many stories, they never have siblings when they do in real life. Granted, it's not easy to find out info like that about some people but if you do enough digging, you can find stuff. Relevant info.

Main reason half my characters don't have siblings is because I don't know if they do or not or they have no part to play. But they can be mentioned I guess.

Idk just makes me wonder how many people that write these stories actually know stuff about these peeps they're writing about.

Like yes, I know Matt has a sister named Amy. I know that Zacky has a brother and sister. Yes I know that Oli has a brother.

Yes, you can change it for story purposes (I occasionally do with ages but not names and whatnot if I can help it), but like, I find it hard to believe that your made up OC sister for Matt is someone he didn't know about until she was like eighteen and then started trying to hook up with his best friends/band mates.

Y'feel?

Like it just doesn't feel...right in a story sense. Granted, any siblings in my stories play their part.
But like, Matt has an actual sister but you make one up instead?
Just create her character? I feel like I'm being harsh and pushy.

Yes I know it's a story but do you see what I'm trying to say?

I know a lot of people don't care as much in fanfic as I do, but I try to get names right when they have actual siblings and very rarely do I make up names for them.
Same goes for parents.
I know a few of these people's parents' names because I do my research and look into it.

I'm not saying you have to use their actual family's names and whatnot; just weird to me that people go out of their way to specifically create an OC sibling to fit the role of it's the main focus of the story.

I dunno about you, but it just feels odd to me. Are people creating these siblings in their image?

Y'know what I mean? Make any sense?

Like they only acknowledge that they have a sibling when they are either: a). Trying to fuck the band mate, or b). Suddenly coming into their life and have only just found out about their older, richer sibling.

Y'know?

Like these guys in the story had no idea that he had a sister; better yet, a young, hot sister who suddenly exists even though she was raised by his parents and for some reason he never knew she was a thing until like, 20 years down the track. Also they all always love her like a sister because she's now part of the fam but they still all wanna fuck her, right?

Totally makes sense.

Did they just hide her in the basement until he moved out, made hot friends, got a hot girlfriend and now has lots of money?

I have lost track of what I was saying and none of this is structured.

This' just become a blogging thing and truth be told, I'm actually enjoying it. Hope you guys do too because it's kinda nice to talk about random things for some reason.

Anyway, point to be made: don't make them in your image, don't have them just appear after years of living in the basement because they're most likely just out for their siblings' money and to hook up with their brothers' besties.
