"Do you think they're there, yet?" Meredith had never felt this bad about something. It's like she knew something awful was going to happen.

"I don't know." Alaric sighed, spinning Meredith around by her shoulders and keeping his hands on her. He leaned down and made sure that their eyes connected.

"But, I know they will be fine." Meredith nodded, and tried not to pace again, but she couldn't help it. She was too worried and hated being left out of the action.

It wasn't fighting she craved, though, it was protecting her friends.

He kissed her, getting her mind off of things. Instead of fretting over the fight, that was guaranteed to come, she found her thoughts drifting to Matt's lips.

And she instantly felt guilty.

He was confused when she pushed him away, she could tell by the expression on his face, but she couldn't help it.

It was bad enough that she wasn't focusing on kissing Alaric, while actually kissing him. She was thinking of someone else, one of Elena's best friends.

Matt.

He always knew what to say, and what to do, and she admired his protectiveness over all of them, even though he knew, everyone but Bonnie, could handle themselves.

She hated putting Bonnie in the weak category, but she wasn't exactly a fighter.

"Meredith..." Her head snapped up and she found concern, clear in her partner's eyes. "I asked you what was wrong." He informed her quietly, and his eyes flashed an emotion, that she was feeling, at the exact same time.

"I'm fine." She tried to convince both of them, then desperately attempted to take the pressuring attention off of herself. "How about you?"

He didn't know how to answer that.

"Are you worried?" She swore she saw his face drain in relief, and she started to become suspicious, as to why.

"No." His voice became stronger, as he kept talking. "I'm not worried, they've dealt with worse."

"While you weren't there." Meredith muttered, rolling her eyes and walking into the kitchen, feeling useless. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do here, while her friends were over there, risking their lives.

"Hey, I was working on-" She spun around, watching him with wide eyes, then opening her mouth to say she already knew, he told her, but somehow, her horrible guilt forced her to confess her betrayal.

"I kissed Matt." She blurted out, then covered her mouth. He gaped at her, then took a deep breath.

"I kissed Delia, one of my co-workers." She was surprised and couldn't help but feel angry at him, even though she did the same.

"What?" She shrieked, slamming her palms against the counter, behind her and approaching him, furiously.

"It's true. I kissed someone else, while you were away, hopelessly waiting for me." Meredith's mouth opened, but no words came out and she shut it again.

She couldn't believe him.

She couldn't trust him.

And he couldn't trust her.

"You-"

"It was killing me, but now, I don't even feel guilty." He leaned down and pressed a small kiss to the corner of her mouth, causing her to squirm away. "Goodbye Meredith."

She closed her eyes, a single tear rolling down her left cheek, as she felt and took in, his warm breath on her face. She opened her eyes, finally letting herself breathe, only to find no one in front of her.
