Everything was silent at lunch. Lance and Keith were gone and nobody told them anything.

Hunk was the first to voice his concerns.

“Okay, are Keith and Lance okay? Do you think they're in trouble? They haven't been answering their phones and we haven't seen them since second period.”

“I'm sure they're fine, Hunk,” Pidge told him, though she didn't sound too convinced herself.

“Do you think they got kidnapped? Or abducted by aliens? Or...or maybe abducted by alien robot lions who then turn them into the defenders of the universe?”

“Hunk, be realistic. If they were abducted by alien robot lions, then they would've abducted us too,” Pidge rolled her eyes. “There's gotta be more than two defenders.”

“Can I...ask you something?” Lotor asked, looking down at the table, playing with his food.

Everyone stared at Lotor.

“Yeah, what is it?” Hunk asked.

“...do you guys...trust me?”

“What do you mean?” Hunk raised an eyebrow.

“I feel like...I dunno...you forgave me for bullying you, but...you fear that I may go back to my old ways, I guess? I dunno, never mind.”

“Lotor...we trust you,” Pidge told him. “Maybe not completely, but enough to call you a friend.”

“Yeah, dude. Everyone deserves a second chance...even you,” Hunk offered a kind smile.

Lotor looked up at his friends and sighed. “I guess…”

“Guys...I have to tell you something,” Allura blurted. Her eyes were watery, her face pale, and her lips formed a frown.

“Allura, are you okay?” Pidge asked concerned.

“It's my fault that Keith and Lance aren't here,” Allura sniffled as a few tears leaked through.

“What are you talking about?” Hunk asked.

“I'm homophobic...or LGBTQ+phobic,” Allura cried.

Their jaws dropped unbelievingly.

“No...no, you can't be,” Hunk whispered.

“But...you were so supportive,” Pidge said.

“How?” Lotor asked.

“I don't wanna be, I just…”

“My world just flipped upside down,” Hunk said in shock.

“No, I don't believe that. You're joking,” Pidge denied.

“Allura...is there a reason?” Lotor looked at her.

“Remember the shooting in Orlando? The one in 2016 with the LGBTQ+ club?” When everyone nodded, she continued. “Most of my family was there because they were trying to accept their own sexuality or sexual orientation. I lost my mother, my sisters, my brothers, my aunts and uncles, and some of my cousins that day. I only had my father left, and he was devastated, so I sort of lost him too. If my family hadn't been at that club...they'd still be here, and I guess I blame the LGBTQ+ community for that and I know I shouldn't, but I do…”
