89: Homecoming Dance

“Okay, where are we going?” Lance asked, not being able to see anything.

Acxa had put a blindfold on him for the ride. Now, she was guiding him through the doors of the building they were in.

“You'll see shortly,” Acxa replied and led him into the main ballroom.

Once she stopped walking, she waited for Keith to give the signal. He nodded and that's when she removed the blindfold.

Lance looked around in awe. The dance floor was lit up with the rainbow lights of the disco ball overhead. Balloons were everywhere on the ceiling and the ground. A big banner hanging from the ceiling read ‘Welcome to Homecoming!’. A buffet table was filled with loads of food and even dessert.

His eyes fell onto Keith's eyes and looked at him confused.

“Keith...what's going on?” he asked.

“Well, since you missed the Homecoming dance because we were in Texas, I wanted to make it up to you,” Keith explained. “So, welcome to your own personal Homecoming Dance!”

Everyone in the room cheered and clapped, smiling at his happy face.

“You did this?”

“With some help, of course,” Keith blushed.

Lance walked up to his boyfriend and pulled him into a kiss, and then another.

“I love you so much,” Lance said with the biggest amount of seriousness he could muster.

“I love you too,” Keith smiled.

“I mean it.”

“I know,” Keith caressed his cheek and pulled him into one more kiss before saying, “now, let's go have some fun.”

And have fun they did. They danced around, singing, chatting with friends and laughing. The DJ, who happened to be Shay, was killing the mixtapes.

“Now everyone grab a partner and get ready for the slow jams,” she called out as a slow song started playing.

Keith and Lance looked at each other simultaneously, knowing exactly what the other was thinking. Keith extended his hand, a smug smirk on his face, “care to dance with me?”

“I don't know, Mullet,” Lance raised an eyebrow, “you sure you can keep up with me?”

Keith scoffed and pulled Lance close to him, the latter yelping in surprise. He got really close to Lance's ear and whispered, “Is that a challenge, McClain?”

Lance’s breath hitched, his voice cracking, “You teasing me?”

Keith chuckled and swayed their hips together to the beat. “I'm just having a little fun with my little kitten.”

Lance's face flushed at the pet name. “Yeah? Well, if I recall, I'm the one who had you scre-”

“Shh,” Keith hissed and twirled his boyfriend, catching him off guard. “Don't tell the world.”

“What? That I totally dominate when we make out, babe?” Lance played with his hair, staying close to him. “No need to be ashamed. I know you love it when I'm the one in control.”

Keith blushed and dipped Lance. “But who's in control now?” He kissed him, long and hard before pulling them up to stand.

They both gasped for air from their dancing and kissing session. Smiles from cheek to cheek on both of their faces, they could truly say they were happy together.

Lance hugged Keith tightly and the latter reciprocated the gesture. He felt his jacket getting soaked with tears, but something told him they were happy tears. Keith rubbed Lance's back comfortingly, letting him know he was there for him.

“It's okay, it's okay,” Keith whispered to him.

“I'm sorry,” Lance sniffled, “I'm just...so overwhelmed with joy. I can joke around with you and love you and kiss you and do whatever I want with you and...I just feel so lucky to have you as my boyfriend.”

Keith smiled, “Oh, but see, I'm the lucky one. I get to be with the most beautiful, kind-hearted person in the entire universe and I don't even deserve you.”

“You deserve everything, Keith. Everything your little emo heart desires.”

“Aww, come on! I thought we were being serious,” Keith pouted at the emo comment.

“We are, we are,” Lance laughed, wiping his happy tears, and laying his head on Keith's shoulder. “I love you.”

“I love you too, Lance,” Keith pushed Lance's hair back and kissed his forehead.

Keith and Lance had found their way to the roof of the building and were staring at the stars. Crowns on both of their heads from being crowned the Homecoming kings glistened in the moonlight.

“I had a lot of fun tonight,” Lance broke the silence.

“Yeah?” Keith smiled and watched him nod. “I’m glad you did.”

“You’ve officially earned the title of best boyfriend,” Lance told him and kissed his cheek.

Keith chuckled at that and pulled his boyfriend into a cuddle. Lance easily obliged, laying his head on his chest. The sound of his heartbeat pulling him in more.

“You really are the best at everything, huh?” Lance muttered.

“What do you mean?” Keith questioned, subconsciously rubbing his back.

“The best dancer, the best artist, the best hair, the best at planning dates, Shiro’s best man, the best boyfriend...we aren’t even rivals anymore and you’re still one-upping me,” Lance ranted and pouted. “Heck, I haven’t even planned any dates for you and this is like our second date.”

“...is this a competition? Cuz Lance, you’ve already blown me away. You think I’m the best? I don’t even deserve to be in your presence! You’re beautiful, the best dancer, the best kisser, the best charmer, the best singer, the best brother and uncle, f**k, you’re probably the best family member. You’re loving and kind and perfect in every way. I’m so lucky to have you as my boyfriend.”

Lance’s face lit up redder than a tomato. “See? You even compliment me better than I complimented you.”

Keith laughed and kissed his forehead. “I’m only telling you the truth, hun.”

Lance grumbled under his breath and hid his face in Keith's jacket.

“What was that? I can't hear you,” Keith teased and played with Lance's hair.

“I said that it's my turn to plan a date for the two of us,” Lance decided.

“Oh really?” Keith raised his eyebrows.

“Yeah, Next Friday, I’m going to give you the best goshdarn date and you’re gonna love it!” Lance proclaimed.

“Alright, I’m holding you to that loverboy,” Keith smirked and nudged his shoulder.

Lance muffled a chuckle before giving Keith a kiss on his chin.
