Allura rang the doorbell of the Kon residence. Her heart was beating hard in her chest, her thoughts jumbled. Why was she here? It shouldn't matter why he did what he did, he still did it.
The door opened, a small woman with long white hair appearing.
“Hello, you're Allura, correct?” she spoke in a raspy voice.
“Um, yes, and your Lotor's mother?” Allura questioned, not recognizing the lady in front of her.
“Stepmother, you may call me Hazel. Come inside, dinner's almost ready,” she made room for Allura to come inside.
“Thank you,” Allura nodded and walked inside.
Immediately, she felt a strange aura. The house felt...sad, dark, angry maybe? It didn't really have a homey feel to it at all, and that kind of scared her a little.
“Allura, you made it,” Lotor smiled, pleased that she had come.
“Yep.”
“Did you find the place okay?”
“Yeah, my father just put it in the GPS,” Allura nodded.
“Good, I can-”
“Eleanor, enough,” a booming voice sounded and instantly, the boy shut up, flinching as the footsteps grew closer. “You don't want to overwhelm our guest, do you?”
“N-no, sir,” Lotor stammered.
“And why aren't you in the outfit I chose for you?”
“S-sorry, sir, I'll put it on now.”
When Lotor ran up to his room to change, the man smiled at Allura.
“Ah, Allura, it's been far too long since I last saw you,” Lotor's father, Zachary Kon, greeted. “How are you?”
“I'm good, sir, and you?” Allura replied.
“Good, and you can call me Zach. Please, let Eleanor take your jacket and you can have a seat at the dining room table.”
“Okay,” Allura raised an eyebrow, gasping at the light purple dress he was in, but Lotor said nothing as he waited for her jacket.
She took off her jacket and handed it to Lotor. “Thank you.”
He only nodded and led her to the dining room. He pulled out a chair for her to sit in.
She sat down, nodding her thanks.
“S-sir, permission to speak?” Lotor requested quietly.
Zachary frowned, but granted permission.
“Thank you.”
“Lotor, why are you wearing a dress?” Allura asked. “And why are they calling you-”
“Allura...I...I'm sorry, I should've warned you, or reminded you of-”
“Eleanor, set the table and stop bothering our guest,” Hazel interrupted, nudging Lotor a little harder than necessary.
“Y-yes, ma'am,” Lotor sighed and left to set the table.
“He wasn't bothering me,” Allura interjected, but Hazel wasn't listening.
The house was silent, other than the clatter of dishes. Soon, the table was set and the food was served. The room stayed silent, no one said anything.
“So, Allura, how's the food?” Lotor asked, trying to start a conversation.
“It's really good,” Allura noted with an awkward smile.
“Good. I'm glad you enjoy-”
“Eleanor, either stop talking and eat or go to your room,” Hazel hissed, “I can't stand to hear your voice anymore.”
Lotor frowned, hurt clearly in his face. Allura could see his eyes glimmering with unshed tears she guessed. She watched him start to eat the little amount of food on his plate. There were probably plenty of leftover food that he could eat, but she was afraid that he would get in trouble for requesting more.
“Eleanor, go to your room,” Zachary demanded.
Without a word, Lotor stood up from the table and ran to his room. Allura was confused. What had he done?
“Excuse me, I shall return,” Zach wiped his mouth with a handkerchief and left to follow Lotor.
Allura sat there, not knowing what to do. She continued to eat in silence.
Until she heard a scream and a painful sounding thump. She got up and ran up the stairs, Hazel trying to stop her. Allura opened the door she heard the noise coming from and froze as she witnessed Lotor being kicked in the stomach repeatedly by his father. Tears fell through Lotor's eyes as Zach yelled at him not to cry.
“You're a pathetic excuse of a lady!” he snarled, kicking him again. “You're a terrible daughter!” Another kick, and then he grabbed him by the collar of his dress. “I wish you were never born.”
And then he threw him on the ground. “Now stay in here and think about what you've done!”
Allura unfroze, her body filled with rage. Without even knowing it, she stomped up to Zach and punched him so hard in the jaw that he just about passed out.
“How DARE you!?” Allura growled. “Lotor hasn't done anything to deserve this abuse! He was just trying to be a good host! And furthermore, he's not a lady! He is a young man! Not your daughter, your son! If anyone is pathetic around here, it's you! Now, I'm going to bring Lotor to my house and he's going to stay there until you learn how to be a decent human being! Now, Lotor, are you able to pack your things?”
Lotor whimpered as he tried to stand, but he was too weak. Not being able to finish his dinner left him weaker than usual. Allura helped him sit up by his bed.
“Where's your backpack?” she asked and Lotor pointed.
She grabbed some clothes and essentials from his dresser and his attached bathroom. Once she was done, she carried the backpack and helped Lotor get to his feet.
“We'll take this slow, okay?” Allura promised. Lotor nodded. “You can talk, you know.”
Lotor whimpered, leaning extra weight on her, more tears leaking out. She knew he was scared. Allura shushed him and comforted him, making sure he felt safe.
“Ready?” Allura asked. When he nodded, they started walking slowly out of the room. Once they got to the stairs, they both realized that this wasn't going to work at all. “I'm gonna have to carry you down the stairs.”
Lotor nodded his okay and Allura gently lifted him up bridal style. Lotor looked at her in amazement.
“What?” she asked as she started going down the stairs.
“Strong,” was the word he whimpered out.
Allura giggled, “Thank you.”
They made it down the stairs, where Hazel glared at her stepson. However, she backed off when Allura sent a heated glare toward her. She walked out the door and started walking. She set Lotor down on a bench after walking for five minutes.
“Are you okay?” Allura asked worriedly.
“Y-yeah,” Lotor coughed up a little.
“Are you sure?” Allura placed a hand on his stomach and he screamed in pain. “Sorry! Sorry! Okay, I’m gonna call an ambulance for you.”
Allura grabbed her phone and dialed the number. She requested an ambulance and gave them the information. Meanwhile, Lotor ended up throwing up on the ground. Allura was shaking in fear for him, watching as the boy trembled, looking at the contents of his stomach. Allura gently shifted him so that he was laying on her lap. She calmly stroked his long, silky hair, whispering comforting words to him. Lotor weakly grasped onto Allura’s hand before he fell limp on her legs.
“Please be okay,” Allura wished, though no one could hear her.
