Dev inhaled deeply and closed his eyes. So much had changed.
He turned back and looked at Sona's face. Even in sleep, she wasn't at peace. It took almost an hour for Dev to coax her into sleeping. She was constantly crying and throwing tantrums. This time, he didn't mind it and he was thankful for the soundproof doors.
He thought that he was prepared for her hatred but unfortunately, Sonakshi's reaction shocked him. He knew that he had crossed all his limits and reopened her old wounds. He felt so ashamed about it. After the words he told her, he could never hope for his feelings to be reciprocated.....but he willed to try. Before he went further, he had to earn her trust to make her feel safe and secure with him. He had to try.
It would be difficult but not impossible.
He snapped out from his thoughts when he saw Sona shuffling in her sleep. He slowly pulled the covers up till her neck and kissed her forehead.
"I am sorry sunshine"

"I can't run mummy"
".... Come on baby............you have to do it!" her mother said in between her pants.
Just when they almost crossed the road lane, a car dashed in front them. Her mother's eyes widened and body tensed. Two ugly looking henchmen walked out from the car, followed by the most dreaded person, Sanjay.
"S.....sanjay.... Please. Don't do anything to us! We beg you...."
"So....? Trying to escape sweethearts?" he mocked as Sona wrapped her arms tightly around her mother's legs.
"Do anything to me.....but leave her" she pleaded but it was of no use.
"The moment you walked to the police station.... I warned you. But looks like you never learnt your lesson huh?..." he spoke menacingly. Sona was shaking while she felt her mother's hand forcefully clutching hers'.
She could feel her mother pinching her in the side, signaling her to run away....but she couldn't. Her legs were frozen and body shook like she was suffering from tremors.
"Come here darling" Sanjay opened his arms and stood there with a cruel laughter. His murderous eyes frightened her.
"Please don't...." She said and his eyes turned red.
"So.....It's because of this bitch right?" he roared and quickly strode towards Sona.
One slap! One slap was all it took for Sonakshi to become unconscious.
The moment she woke up, everything was blurred. Her father and his henchmen were smoking at the side. Her mother's face was fully distorted. Dress all over the place, hair messed up and face fully bruised. There was a rope tied from her hands to the tree on top, while she struggled to stand straight on her feet.
"Maa.." her voice was soft but her mother managed to hear it.
"Run..." she mouthed softly and tears started pouring down her cheeks.
She never wanted to leave her mother alone. She didn't want to be selfish. Her eyes were burning and chest felt heavy as if they were filled with rocks. But her mind worked faster. If not now, then there's never another chance.
