"I love you..." he spoke in a trance as Sona stared at him longingly.
Biting her lips, a mischievous look spread across her face. With eyebrows slightly raised, she moved closer to him and looped her arms around his neck.
"Could you do that again?"

It was a long night for Dev. He didn't know how long it had been since he had a good sleep. Ever since he was in India, he never had a proper sleep. Although he had a few hours of sleep in between his work, his mind was always wide awake. His body wasn't cooperating with him either. He had frequent headaches and body pains, which he had silently ignored. But now, everything was taking a toll on him. In the end, the entire mission had left him exhausted.
Mentally, emotionally and physically!
Sona kept gazing at him while he was asleep. She recalled how he had made her laugh last night.... The smile on his face was the most adorable thing she had ever seen. He was happy making her happy.... No one had ever done that for her. Looking at him, she sensed how tired he was. He slept once he hit the bed. He didn't even talk much to her the previous night. She noticed how much he had changed over the past few days. She felt like she was with another person. A more serious person.
Maybe this was the real officer Dev Sharma!
Truly... the moment she slept near him, her eyes closed on its own. His warmth and aura just lulled her into a deep sleep. That's when she realised how much his presence gave her the sense of security. She was at so much of peace when he was with her.
Her eyes widened at the realisation of how much she actually missed him!
He had risked her life once. It was the most traumatic experience in her life after her mother's death. It made her hate him...But now, she noticed that she had no grudges over him. She had just lost all the trust that she had on people... Even though he explained that he had done that to save her, she couldn't forget everything easily. Forgiveness takes time....
She just wished that she could forget everything and move on peacefully. The term 'moving on' was more than just a word for Sona. It was like a re-birth. She just wished that the others would look at it the same way too. The fear her father had embedded on her was planted strongly inside her heart. She understood why Dev had planned that ugly mission. It was to put an end to all the crimes. But, it also snatched an integral part of her soul.
A part which she would never be able to replace....
After all, the whole village was now saved from her father's clutches. She should be feeling relief and proud of her husband.... Key word....should be....
Sighing heavily, she sat up on the bed and looked at the wall clock. It was way past their usual breakfast time but Dev was still fast asleep. Narrowing her eyes, she reached out to his shoulder and poked him lightly.
But there was no reaction out of him. Concern grew in her eyes. He had always been awake before her all the time. She had never seen him sleeping so late even in London. As she moved near him, she sensed the radiating heat from his body. Her eyes widened, and she carefully placed the back of her palms on his forehead.
His forehead was indeed burning. She removed the thin blanket away from him and realised that his lips were puffed out. His face was beet red and his skin glistened in cold sweat. His pale skin was already showing signs of dehydration.
Why didn't she notice this before? Was she that ignorant to his needs? Her face paled and hands shivered.
"Oh my god..... Dev, you are having a high fever?" Sona gasped as she turned him around to her side forcefully.
