It felt odd living out a day that had already happened once again. I wiped off the counters and prepped the coffee machines, waiting for my coworkers to arrive. As per usual, Jimin was the second person to enter the cafe. He came in dressed in his usual dance clothing, a t-shirt and basketball shorts.
In the past, Jimin would give me a halfhearted wave before disappearing to get ready. I expected that to happen again today.
"Good morning." I said monotonously. I couldn't overcome this depression that was holding me down. I was going to lose all of these new friends that I cared so much about.
"Hi Areum-ah." Jimin beamed at me, a genuine smile, before going to change.
'Odd, usually he isn't that excited to see me.'
My eyes followed him as he disappeared into the back.
Hyuna was the next to come in. She looked disheveled by still pretty as always, she barely wanted the job but kept it anyway. Usually she came in late and got away with it.
"Morning." I muttered to Hyuna, still bitter about what I knew she would do to me today. She was a backstabber, and I was glad I had the knowledge that I couldn't trust her.
"So, how was your weekend?" A bubbly Jimin asked. He appeared out of nowhere behind me, dressed in a white button-down for the day. I noticed he had dyed his hair, originally his hair would have been black. But he dyed it an auburn now.
"It was... nice?" I replied, unable to recall what I did that weekend. "What about you?"
"Great!" Jimin beamed, "I'm going for the auditions soon, thanks to you."
'What?'
What auditions? Also, thanks to me? I guess I missed out on a lot in this time line.
Jimin nodded enthusiastically, putting a hand over mine. I looked up at him, surprised. Jimin had changed quite a lot. Normally he wasn't big on skinship.
Well, not big on skinship with me.
"Yeah, I'm trying out for Big Hit tomorrow." He smiled, "Your advice really helped."
'What advice?'
I felt like there was a joke I was missing out on.
"What particular advice might I have given you?" I asked, trying to get in on the story, giving him my best smile. But that was the dumbest way to ask it.
Jimin didn't seem to catch on, though, and instead went on to say, "Well, you told me one day that if something is hard for us, then it's probably the one thing we should do."
"I said that?" I asked, brow quirked. I was probably trying to slyly tell him to do me, I guess he heard it wrong.
He nodded, "Yeah. If something were easy, then everyone would be doing it. Like with pursuing dance. So I'm going to do it!"
'I guess I give pretty good advice.'
"I'm glad." I said. "I want to see you succeed."
I smiled at Jimin and he stared at me for a moment before disappearing.
After a long day of serving coffee, and telling Hyuna I was going to confess to Jimin, I knew the inevitable was going to happen. I was going to be fired.
I took a deep breath, walking back to the lockers, waiting for Mr. Lee to pull me aside.
"Areum!" Mr. Lee called after me.
'Here goes nothing.' I sighed, turning to him with a smile.
"Yes sir?" I asked, waiting for the awful feeling of being fired to hit me again.
