Shownu smiled at me, that genuine lopsided smile that always made my heart skip a beat, before pulling open the door. I followed him out into the hallway.
The building was busy with crew and potential trainees walking around. This was a big day, a competition with 10,000 US dollars and a contract with Starship at hand. A competition Shownu deserved to win.
He checked his watch. It was 10:21.
"We need to find me quick." Shownu said, "There's going to be roll call and rehearsal soon."
We walked up and down the halls together, Shownu's head bowed a bit so the brim of the hat would hide his face. He looked like a janitor, so no one paid him any mind.
I searched the hallways, looking for Current Shownu, when I started to notice all the pretty girls here. The trainees and hopeful contestants that walked the halls were all much more attractive and much skinnier than I was. If Shownu won, he would be around girls like this 24/7.
'I don't stand a chance...'
"There I am!" Shownu whispered to me excitedly. He pointed to a crowd of guys. Current Shownu was having a conversation with other trainees, and he looked happy. "Those are some of my friends from other companies. I am the only one without a contract or loads of money."
I watched how Current Shownu interacted with his friends. He was a bright guy, anyone would be lucky to be friends with him.
"How are you going to get yourself alone?" I asked, turning to look at Future Shownu.
"Why don't you pretend to work here and say you need to talk with me about my profile. Say I need to sign something, and then get me to go into that room. It should be empty." Shownu said, pointing towards the door of an office labeled A5.
I nodded, tentatively walking over to Current Shownu. I wondered if Shownu, or even any of his friends, would find me attractive compared to these other girls. Probably not... But I needed to look convincing. I stood up as straight as I could, shoulders back and head held high.
I took a deep breath, trying to seem as professional as possible, before stopping in front of the group of boys and tapping Shownu on the shoulder. "Sohn Shownu?" I asked.
Current Shownu turned to me, confused. His friends all looked at me too. All of them had numbers and names attached to their shirts.
Current Shownu nodded.
"I just need to go over something really quick." I thought of the lie, "If you can follow me, I think you forgot to sign one part of the agreement."
"Ok." Current Shownu nodded, waving to his friends before following me.
I led him into the office labeled A5.
Current Shownu looked around at the empty office, confused. "What did you need me to sign again?" He asked.
I closed the door once he was inside and Future Shownu stepped out from behind the door. Current Shownu turned around, to give me a confused look, when he spotted himself. His eyes widened, shocked to see another version of himself.
"C-clone?!" He muttered. He was about to scream, I would too if I were ever faced with someone that looked exactly like me, before Future Shownu reached out and touched his shoulder.
"Sorry, but I can do this better than you." Future Shownu said to himself as he turned to dust and was absorbed my the Current Shownu. Once they fused into one person, Shownu looked down at his hands, shocked that it worked. "I'm alive." He laughed. He looked down at his ankle, the brace now gone, and moved it around, "It's not injured anymore!" He looked up at me, beaming. "I really have a chance at this. I couldn't have done this without you..."
