"Why can't I be the one to stay tonight?" Jungkook frowned, borderline whining as he glared at Namjoon's hand firmly holding Tae's. He then narrowed his eyes further at Yoongi's boneless body lying next to Taehyung because that should be him if they weren't going to let him take care of his hyung for the night.
"Because you poked him the last time," Yoongi deadpanned sleepily, eyes barely open.
"That was days ago. Jimin made him cry when he stayed," Jungkook pointed out- a valid reason that needed to be addressed in the maknae's opinion.
"Excuse you, I bet you'd do the same thing," Jimin bit back, mildly annoyed at the maknae's attempt at dragging him down with him- even more so when the maknae just stuck his tongue out as a response and continued to sulk.
Jungkook knew why he couldn't be the one to stay overnight- after all, he hadn't been doing good in keeping his shit together these past few days. He had been close to something fragile for days now and staying with Taehyung, who was just as equally vulnerable as he was (if not more), alone, would be a disaster waiting to happen. He wouldn't be able to look after his hyung and himself, and he knew that, but he couldn't help but feel disappointed and (overly) sad.
To be very honest, this wouldn't even be an issue for Jungkook any other days. He would gladly let anyone take care of Taehyung for everyone's sake. However, it had been such a rollercoaster for everyone that afternoon that the youngest felt like he wasn't ready to part with Taehyung even for just one night- especially since his hyung just outright told them to stop hiding and pretending like they weren't drowning. Like their nightmares and their fears didn't exist.
His Taehyung hyung had known all along. He had known all about the things that had gone through their heads, even his deepest darkest insecurities- the voices that told him he could never do enough for not just Taehyung but all of his hyungs.
Jungkook couldn't exactly stay stubborn though- because he was sure the others felt similarly as him. He'd get his chance- he was sure of it- just not today. He was just finding it extra hard to take a step back and let someone else who's more capable to take care of his hyung.
Nonetheless, he still sighed and looked at Yoongi wistfully. I should be the one lying there! Hmph!
But that thought quickly went away when he noticed Taehyung yawning. "Hyung, are you sleepy?"
"Hmm hm, a little," Taehyung replied tiredly.
"Then, you should sleep," Yoongi mumbled, eyes closed.
"You're one to talk," Seokjin deadpanned. "You've been practically dead on your feet for days now and yet you refuse to sleep like a stubborn child."
Yoongi's eyes slit open at that, not particularly bothered by the eldest's blatant jab (because it was true), but he tried to look like it at least.
"Let me live. For all I know, you guys may be planning to bad mouth me to Tae if I so much as doze off."
Seokjin gasped dramatically as Hoseok jumped in. "How'd you know?"
"You little shits," Yoongi said dryly, eyes already slipping shut. It didn't even take him two minutes to finally succumb to the pull of sleep he had been (by the way) running away from for a while.
"Did he just call me 'little shit'?" the eldest gawped, indignant, causing Taehyung to giggle with little restraint (Jimin and Hoseok too).
Despite the disrespect, Seokjin started running his hand through Yoongi's hair as the other slept anyway, knowing that his oldest dongsaeng was just joking.
