The stars are so beautiful. So bright. Nothing bad could happen to them. They stay in the galaxy, just floating. I'm so close I could touch them. But something is keeping me from going higher and higher. Something is calling me home.
"Allison?" The voice was pulling me back. I tried to stay here where the stars were. It was so beautiful. "Allison!" The stars started shaking, then falling.
My eyes opened to a brand new world. In a blacked out room. Someone in a weird looking yellow suit was standing above me shaking me.
I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out. I tried again, nothing. I couldn't say anything, just look at this person with pleading eyes. The person standing over me took a knife and cut the straps that was holding me down. The air was cool, it snaked up and around my naked body. Ripping the cords that were attached to my skin off, then plucking the needles that were pierced inside I grabbed a white gown and threw it on.
"We don't have much time." The person whispered, looking around almost like they were afraid. "Come. Someone is waiting for you."
I followed the person down a hallway and into another room that had a large cage. Inside, a white tiger was resting. When it lifted its head, I fell to knees. I recognized this tiger as Zeb, my tiger cub. Except he was no longer a cub. He was huge. The person opened the cage and let him out.
"You need to go now. But first, take this key. Go to room 203B and grab everything you see with your name on it. Allison Dover." The stranger explained. "Leave nothing. Take everything in there."
I cocked my head sideways, wondering why this person was helping me and who they were. But I did as instructed. Walking along the cold dark hallway, I finally found the room and entered. It looked like someone broke in and destroyed the whole room, but from what I could see, nothing was missing.
I searched through the wooden desk then the metal filing cabinets. I found at least four folders with my name on them. I found a military issued bag and stuffed them inside. I even looked through the medicine cabinets and through everything in them into the bag. When I was sure the room was cleared, Zeb and I left.
Before we even got out the doors, we heard sounds of groaning coming from behind us. I looked at Zeb, who was crouched down, ready for whatever it was. He was growling, hoping to scare it away. But it got closer and closer.
Zeb, he seemed so different. He tapped his front paw and something metal shot over, coating his whole body. It also caught on fire. He ran and lunged on whatever was getting close, ripping it to shreds. He turned to face me, and his teeth were no longer teeth, they were sharper and shinier. He tapped his paw again, and it all disappeared.
I stood there, frozen in place. What happened to him? Is all I could think. He nudged me toward the door, so I opened it and we exited. There was more of those things outside, surrounding the building. I looked at Zeb, who was looking at me. He nodded his head, what was strange, i actually understand him.
I didn't think, I just raised my hands and two swords shot out. Both caught fire, like it was nothing. We ran for the hole that was cut inside the gate, killing these things as we went.
Finally outside the gate, my swords vanished, like they were never there. Zeb looked up at me and growled, I jumped on his back, and he sped us far away from here.
I don't think he fully understood where it was he was going, but anywhere was better than here.
**************
We came up on a highway headed into Atlanta. I dropped my bag and climbed onto a roof of a car. The road was clear from both sides so I rummaged through a nearby car and found some clothes to change into. Even a new pair of shoes.
Out of nowhere A red truck stopped on the highway and three people got out, an old man, another younger looking man and a kid. I didn't know rather to go and say hi or see if they noticed me. But now I had no choice but to show myself, a small hoard of the undead are heading straight for them. Their trying to hide, but there isn't much cover.
"Fuck." I groaned. "Zeb, we have to help them."
He nodded his head and tapped his paw so his armor could shoot up. We jumped over the cars and landed in front of the hoard. Zeb took half while I took the other half.
When the hoard was gone, the younger man approached us with his gun raised. "Who are you?"
"My names Allison, this is Zeb." I eyed his gun. "I'd put that down and say thank you."
"I don't trust you." He scoffed.
"You don't have to." I shrugged "I'm headed that way." I pointed down the road. "Just thought I'd help you out. You're welcome."
"How'd you take out the hoard?" The old man joined us.
"I don't know." I shrugged. "Step back a bit."
"Why?" The young man spoke.
They didn't listen so I took a couple steps back. I raised my hands and shot my swords out. "This is why."
"What are you?" The old man stepped closer examining my hands.
"I don't know." I frowned. "I just woke up in a lab somewhere back that way."
"Did you find anything there?" He asked.
"I did." Pulled my swords back in and dug into my bag pulling out folders. "These." I showed them to him.
"Come sit down, let me have a look." The old man motioned.
I followed hesitantly behind him. He sat on the hood of a car so I sat beside him. "I never got your names and why you're on the highway."
"I'm Hershel, that's Rick and his son Carl." He pointed to the other two. "We are waiting to see if our families appear, my farm got over run with walkers. We had to leave." He frowned opening the folders looking through them.
"I'm sorry." I whispered. "I shouldn't have pried."
"It's ok." He sighed.
Two more cars and a motorcycle was approaching. Hershel closed the folder handing it back to me and standing up walking toward Rick and the kid. I guess their families are here.
