Ricks plan consisted of building an extra wall further out from Alexandria. Why? Because he wants to lead them away about 20 miles give or take. The wall is to make them stay on track without breaking free. So that's what we are all doing, building the wall and getting ready.
"Hey." Eugene whispered. "I made a prototype." He showed me a small button that can slide onto finger. It looked like a normal ring.
"Does it work?" I asked taking it from his hand to examine it.
"I haven't tried it. May I?" He asked taking it back. I nodded and a loud screech filled my ears making me fall to my knees.
I could see Daryl and Rick trying to say something but I couldn't hear them over the loud screeching sound. Where was it coming from? Eugene released the button when he realized it was that, that made me fall.
"What the hell was that?" I groaned standing up wiping my jeans clean.
"Needs some improvements." Eugene said shaking his head.
"A lot of em'" Daryl snorted. "What happened?"
"It was just a loud screech. A strong one."
"Enough to weaken you." Rick spoke up. "Fix that thing, Eugene."
Eugene nodded and went back to work on the wall with some the town members. Tobin was moving some wood with a kid when a couple walkers emerged from the woods. "Walkers!" He yelled backing away.
"No one touch them. You all have to learn to defend yourselves in these situations. Aim for the head, don't let them closer than necessary." Rick ordered.
Michonne drew her sword, Morgan lifted his stick, Daryl knocked an arrow, Eugene backed away, I drew my swords and Carrot top grabbed an ax, all while Rick stood by.
The kid fell under a walker, Tobin fell dragging the kid away and Morgan struck the walker. Michonne struck another and Daryl shot his arrow. Another came behind me making us roll. I grabbed its mouth and pulled it wide open ripping its skull in half. Carrot top removed the dead headless body from on top of me and tossed it into a ditch.
"That was close." He chuckled helping me to my feet.
"Yea, let's not let that happen again."
"Deal."
*******
After we finished the wall, we all went back home to get some rest before we tackled the horde. Of course everyone would need it. When I was changing outing of my clothes, I noticed the scratch on my shoulder where the walker tackled me.
You'd think I'd learn by now not to tango with a walker that was so close. I guess I'll never learn. I hobbled into a bedroom so I didn't scare or worry anyone downstairs. Shutting and locking the door I slunk to the floor.
It only took thirty minutes for me to black out completely. I was alone when I did. So no one would find me until tomorrow unless I woke up before they noticed.
******
Footsteps shuffling, voices carrying through the hall, doors being slammed, and the doorknob to the room I'm in being rattled. I woke up feeling groggy, I was still slunk over in front of the door. But I still felt weak. Maybe if I could just reach up and unlock it.
I unlocked it and tried to crawl away for someone to come in and help me, but I just fell on my face and blacked out again. What is happening to me?
A beeping machine is what woke me up. I opened my eyes slightly and seen all the bright lights and the needle sticking from my arm. Oh no, I'm back in the lab. I thrashed and panicked. Carol raced to my side and held my hand. "You're ok." She whispered.
"What happened?" I groaned rubbing my forehead.
"We don't know." She shrugged. "Can you remember anything?"
"I got scratched by a walker. I remember lock-in myself in a room, but not much else."
"Eugene has another button to test." She frowned. "I'm sure he can figure out what happened."
"Where is everyone?"
"Their out there seeing if Ricks plan would work. Telling everyone what they need to do."
"Without me?" I yelled.
"You're hurt. You need to relax."
"No, I need to be out there." I tried to jump up and pull the wires from my arm, but Carol pushed me back down.
"Allison, sweet heart...listen to me. You have to relax and breathe."
Eugene ran through the door. "Oh, she's up. Sorry I had a thing with father Gabriel." He walked over to me unhooking my machine and sticking a needle in my arm shooting more black stuff into my veins. "It's just a little to help make you feel better."
After he removed the needle I jumped to my feet. "Now what?"
"I need to test this new button. Then you're free to do whatever you like."
When he pressed the button, it wasn't a loud screech. It was low and tolerable. Even with him standing right next to me, I could tell it was the one in his hand.
"It works." I chuckled.
"Good, I went ahead and made the whole group one. I told them the test is to see if you hear it from wherever they are. But only if they had to."
"You have one Carol?" I looked over at her spinning her ring around on her finger.
"Yup." She held up her hand where the ring was. "Ready to get out of here?"
"You bet." I give her a thumbs up and hugged Eugene. He was a big dweeb and such a chicken shit, but he's really cool. And he's helped me since I met him. He also saved Tara.
Until I hear a button, I decided to hang around with Carol and help her bake some cookies. She is like my mom, a mom I never had. My mom wanted to create a monster. Well she got her wish.
Thinking about her I threw a glass plate at the wall and screamed. I wanted her dead, I wanted her to pay for taking my life away. And I will make her.
