Phil

Phil opened his eyes slowly, winching at the bright light. "Ah there he is." He heard a soft female voice say. He saw a young redhead bending over him, smiling at him. He quickly recognized her as the school nurse.

what? what am I doing here? "Hey Phil." She said, "How are you feeling?" "Eh..." Phil sat up and was met by a headache. "Kinda dazed, my head hurts..." "Yeah, I'll bet, you fainted during biology class and hit your head on your desk I think." Phil blinks a few time while rubbing his forehead, trying to massage the pain away. "But you've also got a bump on the back of your head which confuses me." the nurse said, still smiling.

Phil traces the back of his head and flinches. Shit that hurts. Quick. Come up with an excuse. "Eh yeah, that happened this morning... I uh bumped my head." "Well duhuh, look at how tall you are, you must bump your head all the time." Phil smiled slightly and nodded. "Well you may have fainted from dehydration or just from standing up too quickly. Mr Davies with his weird classes, am I right?" It was obvious she was trying to connect and make fun conversation. It didn't really work.

"Yeah I skipped breakfast this morning, so that might be it." Phil said, without thinking about it. "You skipped breakfast?" the nurse looked confused. "Uhh.. yeah I overslept, didn't have time." Phil shrugs. "Oh.. well here's an apple." She grabs one from the bowl of fruit on her desk. "Eat this, drink some water, and take it easy. You should be fine!" She smiled. "Thanks." Phil said softly. "Thank your friend as well." she gave him a small pat on the back, which was awkward and then turned away towards her desk. "Friend?" Phil asked. "What friend?" I don't have any. "Outside." she nodded. "He carried you here from biology class." She looked at him like that answered his question, it really didn't.

Phil tried to look outside through the door but all he saw were the lockers. He got up slowly, trying not to make his headache worse. While walking towards the door he turned around for another silent thank you. The nurse just smiled some more, Phil wandered what she was so happy about.

He opened the door en he made eye contact with the big brown eyes yet again. The boy from the hallway? What did they call him again? Howell? Phil took a step towards the boy, not really sure what to do. "Hi!" the boy said. "Eh... Hi.." Phil became really awkward and had no idea where to look. Was this the "friend" who carried me? The boy was very uncomfortable as well, pushing some hair out of his face while looking at his shoes. "Eh... The nurse said you brought me here?" Phil asked, honestly cause he had no idea what else to say. "Yeah..." the boy seemed to be embarrassed about it. "Mr Davies wanted to stay in the class so he asked if anyone wanted to..." he just shrugged. "You know..." Phil nodded understanding.

Another silence, fuck why was he so awkward. He hated it. Suddenly Phil took another step forward, sticking out his hand. "I'm Phil." The boy looked up a little surprised, but shook his hand. "I'm Dan." "Howell." Phil blurted out. Oh my god why did you say that. "Uh yeah, Dan Howell." One of the corners of his mouth kinda twitched which made it look like he smiled for a second.

"That was actually the reason I wanted to take you here." Dan said. "What do you mean?" "I felt really bad for leaving you alone in the hallway like that. That was really not cool. I'm sorry." Phil was surprised to see genuine regret and embarrassment in Dan's face. He meant his apology. "Eh, no it's totally fine." Phil shake his head. "No it's not, I've been in your place a million times, always wishes someone would help me, and know I didn't even do it myself."

Phil was startled for a second. He definitely didn't expect this to come out of this situation. "Well, those guys seemed to really have it out for you, so I don't blame you." Phil was telling the truth, if Dan would have stayed things would've probably gotten a lot uglier. "I would have done the same. Seriously, don't worry about it." Phil insisted.

Nobody should feel guilty because of him. A man shouldn't expect help, a man can take care of himself.

"Thanks." Dan nodded. Silence yet again. Phil took this opportunity to take a good look at the boy. He was wearing all black, ripped jeans and simple sneakers. His hoodie was really big on him, which made it look like he was hiding under it. Maybe he was. He had curly brown hair that looked kind of out of control, but in a good way. Handsome. He was a good looking boy, Phil thought to himself. Weird he never noticed him before.

Dan

Dan looked up meeting his eyes. His eyes that were bright blue, shining like there were a thousand tiny stars in them. Black hair with a fringe that nearly swept over his eye. He wore a dark blue shirt and simple black jeans, nothing that stands out, except those eyes.

Dan shook out of it, realizing he had been staring. He saw that Phil felt uncomfortable. "Eh, so what did the nurse say?" Dan said, trying to change the subject. "Oh... yeah I skipped breakfast because I overslept, so that and the workout didn't really turn out well." he kinda smiled. He had a pretty smile. "Yeah Davies and his dumbass ideas." Dan grinned. "Right?! Who the hell starts a workout session at a biology class?!" "Mr Davies apparently, but I think he learned his lesson." "Yeah I doubt he'll try that again soon." They both laughed quietly, more relaxed now that the ice was broken.

Dan checked his watch. "I mean we could go back to class, but lunch break starts in 5 minutes." Phil nodded, "yeah let's just go to the cafeteria." "I see you got free lunch." Dan said, pointing at the apple Phil was holding. "Ah yes, perks of fainting at biology class." "Yeah, and the other perk is that you missed biology class." Dan smirked. "Just wished I would have fainted before the workout, man that took a toll on me." Phil said pretending to walk with a limb. "Same, I mean after that run through the school this morning I was all out of movement." Dan said laughing.

Phil turned silent. "Why was that exactly? What did those guys want?" Dan cursed himself in his head, why did he bring that up again? Of course he was gonna ask about it. Stupid... "Ah nothing, just jerks you know?" Phil nodded. "Yeah I know." he said while showing the back of his head. "Dude, you must have a raging headache." Dan called out. "Little bit." Phil shrugged. "Wait..." Dan stopped walking and started fishing around in his backpack, eventually getting out a bottle of pills. "These are painkillers I got from my doctor for my migraines, they really help. Do you want one?" Phil hesitated. That's when Dan realized he was offering drugs to a stranger. Dude, kinda creepy, maybe don't??  "Sorry, I just thought..." "Yes, I'd like one." Phil interrupted holding out his hand. "Maybe I'll be able to concentrate better next period." he smiled. God there's that pretty smile again.
