Dan
Dan woke up sobbing again, another nightmare. He was relieved to see he hadn't woken Phil up this time. He dried his cheeks with his pillow so he didn't have to get up. The curtains weren't closed completely so it was starting to get bright in the room.
Dan looked at Phil as he lied next to him. Phil's hair was out of control, Dan thought it looked kinda cute. This was the first time Dan could properly stare at him and he took the opportunity. Dan startled when Phil moved his arm, scared that he had woken up. Realizing how awkward it would be if Phil had woken up and saw Dan staring at him, Dan got out of bed.
He quickly put on pants and a clean shirt and walked to the bathroom. He had big puffy red eyes and dark circles underneath them. He felt like even though he slept, he didn't really get any rest. Washing his face and fixing his hair he tried to control the damage.
Dan felt confused. On the one hand he felt excited and tingly, for he had just slept in one bed with his crush who had hold him the entire night before. On the other hand he felt like he could just die, mortified and gross.
He had this big black cloud in his mind who forced him to re-live those few minutes in the locker room over and over again. But then when Phil talked to him those blue eyes made him forget about it for just a second.
Dan walked downstairs in to the kitchen. Since his mom loved cooking he'd never had to do it once. He knew how to make himself basic breakfast but anything that involved heat or mixing ingredients was too difficult. Still he felt like he had to make Phil something to thanks him for staying with him.
He started cutting up different fruits like strawberries and bananas. Dan realized he actually knew quite little about Phil. Of course he knew the serious stuff and the day on the beach he learned all the big things of his life, but not his favorite breakfast, or color for that matter. Dan made a mental note to ask about the small stuff today.
Dan grabbed two plates and decorated them with the cut up fruit. It was nothing fancy, it was literally just fruit, but by placing it in different shapes he tried to make it at least a little bit nice. He poured two glasses of orange juice too.
"Hey." he suddenly heard behind me. Completely startled he gasped and turned around and smashed one of the glasses on the floor. Phil was then shocked by Dan's reaction. "Shit fuck..." Dan said trying to catch his breath, "you scared me." Phil grinned, "yeah well you scared me too..."
"Shit..." Dan said while looking at the ground. Pieces of glass were everywhere, covered in orange juice. "Watch out for your feet." he said.
"Me?" Phil chuckled, "Dan, you're the one surrounded by the glass with bare feet." Dan looked around assessing the situation, "Good point actually..." "How can I help?" Phil started looking around the kitchen to look for something to clean the glass up.
"Eh... There's a vacuum cleaner behind you behind that door." Dan pointed to a corner of the kitchen. "I don't think you're suppose to vacuum glass, at least not pieces this big." Phil grinned. "You're not? Well how am I suppose to know that?"
"Okay I have an idea," Phil came a few steps closer making sure to avoid the glass. "Climb on the counter behind you and sort of crawl this way, and you can jump here." Phil started pointing around the kitchen making an obstacle course. "Okay Phil I don't know how bendy you think I am but those tiny glass pieces are literally everywhere and I can't jump that far."
"Sure you can, come on, I'll help you." Dan nodded realizing he didn't have a lot of options and started to climb on the counters to avoid the glass. He had to go two counters to the right and then he could jump over to Phil. "I really don't think I can do this Phil, if I trip now I land face down in a floor of glass."
"I'll catch you, really." Phil stretched out his hands. Dan took a deep breath and jumped off of the counter, over the glass. Phil grabbed his arms when he landed, pulling him away from the glass, into his arms. Dan fell right into his chest like a hug, breathing a little heavy from the adrenaline. This made Phil laugh, "Wow, you did a single jump and you're out of breath?" "A single jump over a floor of smashed glass yes." Dan grinned and pulled his head out of the hug, making their faces to only be inches apart.
"Thank you for catching me." Dan whispered.
"You're welcome." Phil whispered.
For a second all Dan could think about Phil's lips. They were so close right now, he could feel his breath. Suddenly he remember the beach and the rejection and that it probably wasn't a good idea. He pulled back, letting go of Phil. "I should probably clean that up."
