Dan

Sunday afternoon Dan was sitting on the couch watching tv. He and his mom had been ignoring each other all weekend and he knew he had to talk to her but he couldn't. He also hadn't talked to Phil but he knew he couldn't text him, needing Phil to believe that Dan really didn't like him anymore.

Just after Dan turned off the tv to get up the doorbell rang, which is odd because nobody ever comes to their house except for the mailman and it's Sunday... With a sigh Dan walks over to the front door, dragging his feet over the floor. When you feel like shit everything in your daily life, including walking to the door, becomes ten times more difficult.

When he opens the door his heart drops. With a gallant smile, a neat blazer and, what looked like very expensive, fancy shoes, Nick stood in front of Dan's door. His hands behind his back, shoulders straight, hair slicked back. He looked a lot more formal than he ever had in school.

Dan's body is taken over by fear and his first instinct is to slam the door back, but before the door shuts Nick already has stuck his foot in between. "Dan wait!" he says while pushing the door back open.

Dan can feel himself trembling on his feet and takes a step back. "Get the fuck away from me." he tries to say it angry but it comes out more scared. "Dan wait, I'm not here to hurt you, please." Nick puts up both of his hands while keeping his distance.

Dan bit his lip, still unsure what to do. He could never physically take on Nick and he didn't feel like getting beat up in his own house, so his only choice was to actually give Nick what he wants. But what the hell would he want from me?

"Then why are you here?" his voice sounded shaky. Nick lowered his hands and got back in his formal posture. "May I come in?" He sounded unrecognizable. Dan frowned. "I just want to talk." Nick reassured.

Dan kind of wanted to send him away but on the other hand he was actually really curious of what Nick had to say. He seemed pretty harmless right now and Dan had been wandering why he was separated from the rest of the group.

After a short pause Dan took a step back and gestured towards the living room. "Fine." he mumbled. Nick gave him a polite nod as he walked past Dan into his house.

"May I sit?" Nick asked while standing in front of the couch, looking at Dan expectantly. Dan give him a look which said: What the hell are you on about? Nick grinned and took it as a yes and sat down.

"What do you want?" Dan said while crossing his arms, standing across from the couch Nick was sitting on. "And why are you dressed like you just came from church?"

Nick grinned and shook his head. "Because I did..." Dan frowned confused. "You what?"

"I just came back from church." Nick nodded. "I asked my parents to drop me off here." Dan decided to stay with the important topic. "And why did you do that?" he said while squinting his eyes, tilting his head slightly.

Nick bit the inside of his cheek and shifted his eyes downward. Dan could see he was searching for words. "I uh..." he started to fidget with his blazer. "I know Spencer forced you to break up with Phil."

Dan shrugged, so what if Nick knew? Probably all Spencer's friends knew, big deal. "I didn't break up with Phil." Dan scoffed. "We weren't even dating." he said trying to brush it off. "And why should I care that you know?" This boy had been bullying him for the past year and now he comes here, saying he knew Spencer's plan? Yeah, big surprise.

Nick took a deep breath. "I also know what he did to you in the locker room." He now slowly looked back up to meet Dan's gaze. "I believe you." He nodded.

Those three words felt like removed a knife from Dan's heart. Someone believed him, finally somebody believed him. He wasn't crazy, he didn't make it up.

Dan's eyes widened as he slowly realized what Nick just said to him. "W-what?" he stammered. "I know Spencer, and I know when he lies, which by the way is a lot." Nick continued gesturing vaguely in the air. "I also know you guys dated when I caught you kissing last year."

Dan's jaw now dropped. "I'm sorry... What?!" he exclaimed. Nick started blush and went with his hand through his hair. "Yeah uh... I have a lot of apologizing to do." he nodded ashamed staring at his lap.

"Uh yeah, start with the part where you knew Spencer was gay and still decided to beat me up for being gay?!" Dan could feel his heartbeat starting to race, he felt like punching Nick in the face.

"I-I don't...." Nick shook his head. "No no no!" Dan threw his hands up it the air. "Let's start with the part where you knew I never did anything to anyone but still made my life a living hell!" Dan let out a short mocking laugh.

"Or let's talk about..." "I know!" Nick cut him off. "I know I messed up okay?!" Nick looked back up and Dan could see he was tearing up. "I'm sorry..." Nick whispered.

Dan bit his lip, regretting falling out to him like that. Sure Nick deserved it, but he seemed genuinely sorry. "Why now?" Dan crossed his arms, trying to hold his ground a little longer.

Nick shook his head. "He went to far... In the locker room... That was really wrong." Dan couldn't help but let out a laugh again. "Right... normal assault is fine, but sexual assault, that is where he crossed the line right?"

Dan regretted his words right away as Nick now bursted out in tears. He let his face fall in his hands and Dan just stood there for a second, shocked. Even though Nick made him cry countless times he felt such strong guilt for making him hurt only a little. He really wasn't good at getting mad at people.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that." Dan shook his head nervously. "You're here to apologize and I shouldn't be so rude." he ran his fingers through his hair, not sure if he should go to Nick to comfort him.

Nick's sobs quickly slowed down and faded into sniffing. Then Dan could swear he heard a slight chuckle. Nick looked up with red swollen eyes and had a small smile on his lips. "Are you seriously apologizing, to me?" he laughed slightly as he wiped his tears away.

He sniffed and his face turned sad again. "No..." he shook his head, "You should never apologize to me, I deserve this." he took a deep breath and wiped his cheeks again. "This and much more."

For a few seconds the room was silent. Dan had the urge to apologize for apologizing but he suppressed that urge.

Suddenly Nick looked up with a strong look in his eyes, almost angry. "I want to help you get revenge on Spencer."
