Dan
After Dan finally got up he just walked right out of school. No way in hell he was going to another class, risking to run into Spencer. He couldn't go home obviously, his mom had a late shift, which meant she left the house at 5.30 pm, he couldn't come home before that time. He couldn't face her, not like this. He just walked to his tiny car which was parked in the parking spot furthest away from school. No one ever parked here so nobody could see him getting in and out of this terrible car. He sat there for hours, waiting until he could go home. He didn't cry anymore, he couldn't.
Dan looked at his phone, it was 5 o'clock. Practice was over, he had seen al the jocks leave, while keeping his head down of course. He was debating if he should go home already, it was a 20 minute car ride, but Dan was bored out of his mind. But he couldn't take the change, his mother would know. She'd see that something was wrong.
Dan looked down, slowly lifting his shirt. His stomach was completely red, and some spots were turning purple. He's gonna feel that for the next couple of days. He dropped his shirt and leaned back. "At least they didn't touch my face." He mumbled while looking at himself in the car mirror. He would never have gotten away with that. While looking at his reflection he saw something move in the corner of his eye. He turned his head and saw someone leaving the school building, which was odd cause at this time all students usually had left, and this didn't look like a teacher.
His curiosity took over and Dan stepped out of the car. He walked over the parking lot, closer to school. Not to close, but just enough to get a better look. As he walked closer he saw that the boy was familiar. Phil... It was Phil. Dan started to panic. Should he leave? Should he talk to him? What if he asks what happened during lunch break?
Phil had been looking down while walking but now he looked up, Dan was spotted, too late...
"Dan!" Phil waved. Shit. What do I do now? Just talk. Pretend that everything is fine. Everything is fine. "Hi Phil." Dan got one hand out of the pockets of his jeans and gave Phil a small wave back. Everything is fine.
Phil started jogging towards Dan and came to a stop right in front of him. "I'm so sorry what happened during lunch break." Phil said. "What do you mean?" this caught Dan off guard, he was not expecting an apology. "Yeah, I mean, I didn't want you to think that I ditched you or something." Phil seemed genuinely sorry. "I tried to look for you during the rest of lunch break but I couldn't find you." He was worried, about me? "Dude, you didn't have to do that, I was fine!" Dan tried to sound as convincing as possible.
Phil looked confused. "But Spencer said... They didn't hurt you?" Spencer said what? Oh God no what did Spencer say. "What? Nooo, they just... yelled..." Great excuse Dan. "Like, said some mean stuff, shoved me, but that's it, really." Dan even managed to get a smile out. Everything is fine. Phil still looked confused so Dan decided to change the subject. "What are you still doing here?" "I had practice." "Practice?" Phil did not look like the athletic type.
Phil
Shit. What do you say now. "Eh yeah, basketball training..." Phil tried to sound natural, like basketball training was the most normal thing in the world. "Oh..." Dan looked kind of disappointed. "I didn't... know... that you were a jock. I mean after you fainted you said..." "Yeah this was my first training, I'm not really... a jock."
Dan just nodded, but he didn't break eye contact. Phil was amazed by the way he looked, he looked... pure... pure but also broken... but also beautiful. He wandered why so many people were after him, he didn't seem like a bad person. "Why did they take you away during lunch? What did you do?" Dan now looked away and shook his head. "Just... same old same old. Bullies will be bullies."
"I mean yeah, but they seem to have some serious beef with you, why?" Dan looked at Phil again, with a confused face as if he said something odd. "You mean.. you don't know?" Know what? What is he talking about? Phil just shook his head. "What do you mean?" Dan now looked even more confused. "You really don't know who I am?"
Phil started to get a strange feeling, was he suppose to know who he was? What did he do? "Wait, can you explain? What happened?" Dan looked down again and shrugged, "it's a long story, I d-don't really know if... eh..." he started to stutter, Phil saw this was a sensitive subject. He touched Dan's arm softly and tried to make eye contact. "Do you wanna go somewhere?"
