Dan

Dan opened the front door to his house. He saw that his moms car wasn't there anymore, which meant she had left for work. He led Phil into their living room, slightly embarrassed. His mom didn't really have an eye for interior design but she liked bright colors, which meant every piece of furniture was a different color and nothing really matched. Dan didn't really care because he never had people over at his house, except for now.

"Can I get you something to drink?" He asked Phil while scratching the back of his head, not really knowing where to look. "No thanks." Phil shook his head while looking around the room. "I like the colors!" Dan assumed he was lying just to be nice. "Thanks..."

Phil sat down on the bright red couch, looking at Dan expectantly. "Before I get into the story I want to ask you something," Dan said while sitting down next to Phil, "what did you do to piss Spencer off this morning?" Phil turned red and started to fiddle with his fingers. "Oh... nothing really... it was stupid..." he was clearly very embarrassed about it. "Hey, if I'm gonna have to tell my story, I want to hear yours too."

Phil nodded understandingly. "It was... He thought I was checking his girlfriend out." Dan looked up at him, surprised. "Jessica? I mean, I guess she's hot if that's your type." Dan shrugged. "No! I mean, I wasn't checking her out!" Phil said. "I swear!" "Okay... Then, what were you doing?" Phil hesitated, "I was... They were making out like right next to my locker and I... I just... I don't know..." Phil looked confused and embarrassed, avoiding Dan's eyes. "You were checking him out." Dan said calmly. Phil looked up startled, trying to find words for an excuse. "No! I m-mean... I d-don't... I'm not..." "It's fine Phil," Dan put his hand on Phil's knee as an reassurance. "I mean, Spencer is also hot." Phil looked confused at him. "That's also a good transition into my story."

Dan put his hands in his lap, knowing he has to tell the story now. "I've... I've never told my side of the story before." He said quietly. "I mean I tried, but nobody believed me." "I'll believe you." Phil said. Dan took a deep breath, he felt kinda shaky. "Last year, during summer vacation..." he looked up for a second to see that Phil was looking at him, patiently waiting.

"I... I dated Spencer." Dan turned silent, he knew that he was blushing. Phil looked confused, "Spencer is gay?" Dan chuckled softly. "He always said he was bi." He said while shrugging. "We ran into each other at the beginning of the summer and we got along great." Dan smiled at the memory. "After a meeting up a few times he admitted that he liked me and we... we started dating."

Phil looked a little puzzled, he couldn't quite imagine Spencer being, well.. nice... "He told me he wasn't ready to come out yet, so we kept it a secret, the entire summer. We met up in places we were sure we couldn't run into someone from school, like out of town, or at my house." Dan tucked his hear behind his ear, still staring at his lap, too scared to look Phil in the eye. "We actually had a great time, like he was my first boyfriend and... well it was amazing." He smiled again. Phil just nodded, not wanting to interrupt Dan.

"We spend the entire summer together, there was hardly a day where we weren't together. He even stayed here some night." Dan felt his cheeks turning red. "My mom didn't care, she saw how happy he made me, and that made her happy." Phil nodded again, smiling at the blushing Dan, he thought it was kinda cute. Dan felt his breath shaking. "And then... school started..." Phil could guess what happened next, he saw Dan was struggling but he wanted to give him a change to finish his story.

"He didn't... he didn't even look at me." Dan's voice cracked. "But everyday after school we would still hangout, but never at school." Dan tried to control his breath but he knew he could start to cry any second. "After a few weeks I couldn't do it anymore and, and I confronted him at school. We were alone in the halls and I told him I couldn't take it any longer..." Dan hesitated.

"I... I kissed him, at school, something we promised we would never do." Phil put his hand on Dan's shoulder, trying to comfort him. "Nick was there... he saw me kiss Spencer." Dan swallowed his tears, he tried with every bone in his body to keep it together. "He came up to us, screaming like what the fuck and stuff, and Spencer knew he had to choose. He had to make a choice between me and his reputation."

Dan's voice broke, he couldn't hold it anymore. "He didn't choose me." he said, while a single tear rolled down his cheek. "That was the first time he put his hands on me. He shoved me, told Nick that I was crazy and forced myself on him. Then he told the entire school, that I was gay, that I tried to seduce him, that I was gross and..." Dan took a second to calm himself down. Phil moved a bit closer and now put both his hands on Dan's shoulder trying to be comforting.

"It was the talk of the school for the months afterwards, everyone was talking about it, about me. People laughed at me, cursed me, called me names." Dan got his breath and his tears under control, he was calm again. "And Spencer... he just terrorized me, trying to show everyone that he didn't care about me, that he wasn't gay and stuff like that. Shortly after he started dating Jessica and well... you know, he has been trying to bully me of off the school, he wants me to transfer."

"Why do you think that is?" Phil spoke for the first time in minutes. Dan shrugged, "I think I remind him of who he really is, and he hates that part of him, so he takes it out on me." "That's awful." Phil shook his head. Dan looked up at him, looking him in the eye, "you believe me?" he asked full disbelieve. Phil smiled, "of course! Those tears, those were real. He hurt you, I can tell." Dan shook his head, "nobody except my mom has ever believed me."

"Your mom sounds great." Phil took his hands back into his lap. "She is..." Dan smiled now too. "Thank you." he said while looking at Phil face. "For what?" "Just... listening."
