Part 46

~ 1 month later ~

Phil

It had been 4 weeks since Phil last saw Spencer. The day after Dan and Nick went to the principal he came back to school to empty out his locker. When Phil walked past him he expected him to look angry, even threatening. But he actually just looked sad. Maybe even regretful? He just lost his entire high school empire. But Phil didn't feel bad. He had to leave in order for him to walk the halls safely.

Now he stills gets dirty looks, mainly from Mia and Dennis who quickly became a couple after Spencer left. They still hang out with him often, Nick told him. But even though they stare him down in the hallways and in class, they don't talk to Phil or Dan anymore. No more slurs or pushes. They just look.

Jessica disappeared from school for a week after Spencer left and came back looking... different. She had quit the cheerleading squat and was dressed in all black and her hair was in a messy bun. Not a cute messy bun, but like, bed hair. She didn't talk to anyone, not Mia and Dennis, not Nick who tried to include her multiple times. She seems to be quite done with the whole high school happening, but nobody knows what happened between her and Spencer after he left.

In the week Spencer left school Phil's dad hit Phil into the hospital for the first time. This was a wake up call to his mother who then kicked him out. Phil now lives half of the time at home with his mom and the other half at home with Dan. Even though his dad left, his own home still isn't his favourite place to be, so he is very grateful for Dan's mom who invited him to live with her and Dan.

Phil's high school experience did a full 180 after Spencer left. Not only is he not getting bullied anymore, he can now walk the halls holding hands with Dan. He never eats lunch alone. Turns out he and Dan weren't the only people being tormented by Spencer and a lot people were Dan very grateful for getting rid of him, and we sort of became one big friend group. 

For the first time in forever Phil was actually happy. He was safe, he had fun, he loved and he was loved.

Dan

Nothing actually feels as good as opening your eyes in the morning and seeing the person you love sleeping next to you. Dan is over the moon, every single day. It's like his world got an entire new glow. 

Turns out when you don't have to spend all of your energy avoiding all the people who are trying to hurt you, school can actually be a fun place. He is actually quite good in learning and his grades are skyrocketing. 

He started playing piano again, painting his nails, reading, all the things that actually brought joy in his life. And above all of course, Phil. Every second he could he was with Phil. They could just do their own thing and not speak for hours but just being in the same room made him so happy.

Sure it was hard when Phil was in the hospital and determined to keep living at home. But after a long fight with lots of crying and yelling Phil saw it was safer to stay some of the time at Dan's house. And like a gift from heaven, Phil's mom kicked his father out.

It's weird trusting someone the way Dan trusts Phil. He has complete faith that they can get through anything. Dan trusts Phil that he'll never leave like he knows that he'll never leave Phil. 

They are real best friends, compagnons through life, like, actual soulmates.

One person accepting you can make all the difference.
