"You look tired?" Mark commented and poked at my knee, my eyes blinking before I turned to look at him through a half lidded stare.
"A bit."
"You feeling alright?" He pressed the back of his palm to my forehead as to check my temperature but I pushed his hand away from me. "Super", I let out a gentle breath as he ran his fingers through my dishelvelled hair.
"Come on, what's wrong?" Mark walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my slim build.
"I've been having bad dreams lately", I grumbled out eventually and Mark tilted his head slightly in order to better see me. "What kinda bad dreams? Can you describe them?"
"I don't really know if I'm completely honest. I've been having them for the past three days, and I guess it's starting to take a toll on me... It's the same thing each time, yet it has different outcomes at the end of each sequence which always gets me to wake up in a cold sweat",I mumbled, my face scrunching up in displeasure as my mind replayed the scenes from the most recent dream.
"What happens?"
"It's weird... I always see you... B-But it's not you at the same time. Like, it looks like you but I know it's not..."
"How?"
"He... I always see him at the end of the room, the first time I saw him was in a static filled tv set, the second time he was outside a window, in a completey blackened outside. Last night he was leaning in a doorway. Each time I see him, he's always beckoning me to come closer. He's wearing a suit and he looks... Dangerous. He smiles at me with this malicious grin and always calls to me with his black eyes and grey skin..."
"Do you go to him?" Mark asked as he watched me closely.
"Even in my dream state I know it's not you so I always run away..."
"Do you know you're asleep when you're having these dreams?"
"No..."
"Do you think it means something?" Mark asked quietly and I tensed up in his hold, shaking my head as I began to tremble. "I-I hope not... If it is, then what the fuck is the universe trying to tell me?"
Mark's hold on me tightened and he kissed the back on my neck. He could tell that this situation was distressing me heavily, but he clearly didn't want to push me into speaking more than I could.
"Is that all that happens?"
"There's another person", he started. "They look just like me. But again, I know it's not me. They always look so angry. When I run away from you, I run into him and he's much more agressive and vilent, always finding new ways to try and snag me or hurt me. The first time I think he tried to catch me with a lasso and strangle me. The second, he used a axe, luckily I woke up before he could get to me. Last time he chased me back to the doorway where you were but I woke up before I could reach him..."
"Hey, hey, calm down, you need to breathe Jack okay?" Mark said seriously as I grew more and more livid, my body shaking horribly as my breathing grew ragged.
"I'm so scared Mark! What if I go back to sleep and see them again? I'm so tried but I don't want to take the risk!"
This was not how they wanted to spend their first few days in their new home.
"Listen, how about you actually try to sleep and I'll sit here right beside you... Okay? Because you look half dead exhausted and I don't want you to pass out from sleep deprivation."
