~Mark~
"I meant no disrespect, really!" Signe exclaimed to me as I eyed her from my seat. Sean was upstairs recording which left me here, alone, with Signe.
"I'm sure."
"I'm serious!"
"I am sure."
"Are you usually this salty?" She rolled her eyes and sank in her seat. I rose both brows at that sentence, giving her a 'are you fucking serious bitch' look.
"Like me not trusting the girl who so obviously wants my boyfriends dick isn't logical?"
"I mean, you can't blame me, even you can admit that he's a good looking man", she was trying to relate to me, on some scale I could agree but she was not the person I fancied to be having this conversation with. "No I cannot, now can you stop openly broadcasting your attraction for him because if I'm being extremely honest, the more you show it, the more annoyed I become."
"Look, if I knew, I never would've made those moves on him. I'm not interested in making enemies with you Mark, I purely just want to at least... Connect with you on a mutual and friendly scale because it clearly means a lot to Sean for me as his friend to at least be civil with his significant other", she exclaimed after a sigh. I could see where she was coming from, I understood and agreed completely but something further was irking me because I knew part of what she was saying was a lie.
"You never would have made a move on him if you knew?"
"Of course not, I'm not a slut."
"I never said you were one. I'm just concerned because just earlier you still asked him whether you had a chance and if it was okay, as a bisexual, to date multiple people", I gave her an innocent smile and watched as the colour drained from her cheeks.
"Sean tells me everything."
"Listen, I was mistaken and I'm sorry for it", she said after a moment of thought. "Signe, listen to me very carefully because I'm only saying this once and if you cross the line, babe, you don't want to be on that side of the road with me", I laced my fingers together and leaned forward in my seat.
"I'm not interested in being obsessive with him. He's a big boy and can take care of himself. Don't think of me as a boyfriend who's threatening you because I'm possessive or some shit. Don't fuck with me. I'm not telling you to stop seeing him, but I am telling you to watch your fucking distance. You seduce him, touch him or make any moves on him, then lie about it, I swear to god you will never be allowed to even spare a glance in his direction. Understand what I'm saying babe?" I smiled coldly, watching her pale expression stare at me with discomfort and slight fear.
"Do I have to repeat myself?"
"N-No, I've got it", she nodded shakily. "Then there's nothing more we need to talk about", I smiled cheerily and slapped my palms to my knees before jolting up from the chair.
"Do you want something to drink? Coffee? Tea? Anything at all?" I asked politely, acting like the entire conversation never even happened.
"T-Tea", she mumbled and I nodded firmly, walking off into the kitchen with a triumphant feeling.
__________
"What did you say to her?" Sean asked me while we walked along the sidewalk, hand in hand.
"Hmm?"
"She seemed really shaken up when I came back from recording... Did you threaten her to like stop seeing me?"
"No. I told her to watch her distance, not to stop seeing you", I answered him honestly, seeing no real point in lying to him. "So you did threaten her? Was that really necessary?" He chuckled lightly.
"Just being the paranoid boyfriend I suppose, being the paranoid one was what landed me up being here early so it seems to be working in favor at this point", I smiled gently as my free hand palmed my pocket with the box containing our future.
"Not too paranoid please", Sean leaned over and pecked my cheek, a blush creeping up to radiate from my face. It was these small gestures that got me worked up. You'd think that I'd be used to this by now but honestly, things like kisses on the cheeks, hugs from behind and cuddling was what really made me shy and flustered.
"I've been thinking Mark..." Sean suddenly stopped walk and I looked to him, noticing he was now looking all around, actively avoiding my eyes.
"That's a surprise", I teased and he pouted cutely while shooting a glare.
"We've been dating for what? Nine months now?"
"Somewhere along those lines. Shit, we could've had a baby in that time", I grinned broadly and watched as a blush burned over his face, a chuckle erupting from his lips.
"I've been meaning to give you... Or rather ask you..." his face deepened in red.
"I want to make a promise."
"Will you marry me?"
We both said different things simultaneously and our eyes connected as our faces burst with crimson. "What?" We mimic our surprised expressions before looking away.
"Marriage? Geez, I was not expecting that from you at all", Sean chuckled awkwardly after a minute or two of silence.
I chose against responding.
"Isn't that a big step for you?"
"Technically it's a big step for any couple", I responded.
"But... More so for you?"
"I'm guessing that's a no?" I tried to laugh it off but on the inside I was crippling with humiliation, unable to look him in the eyes.
"Mark... I just..."
"No no, you don't have to give an explanation, it's okay."
"Mark..." he stepped up to me and tried to touch my cheek but I flinched away from him, wrapping my arms around myself. Yes, I was sulking but if you were in the position I was, how would you react. I was beating myself up on the inside, humiliated by my misunderstanding of the situation.
How could I have been so stupid.
He got the fucking promise ring.
I got the engagement ring.
Yet neither piece of jewelry was exchanged as we walked in a tense silence back to the house, no longer holding hands and with a large gap between us.
___________
I love how people just assumed Sean got an engagement ring. Even Mark assumed he did.
I hope you all have a super, happy positive day ;)
