"What's up with her?"
"Oh she's just upset that she lost."
"You mean you actually won the tiebreaker?"
"Yeah," he pauses then motions in my direction. "You can't tell from her mood?"
"She," I emphasize. "Is right here and can hear you two you know?"
"Maybe it's her time of the month," Ally tries, and fails, to discreetly whisper to Drew.
I groan throwing my head back. "I'm not upset, and I'm not on my period. Really guys?"
"Sure," Ally drawls out.
The bell sounds followed by the noise of scraping chairs as all of the students make their ways to class.
"Have fun in physics!" I smile sweetly at my red headed best friend.
"Definitely will." She mockingly sticks her tongue out at me.
Getting slightly lost in the sea of high school students I yell to her. "Very mature!"
Entering the bio room Drew sulks as he walks to where his ever-so-helpful partner is already sat, applying make up again. I swear her head must get so heavy with how much product she puts on her face.
Pulling my chair out I drop my bag at my feet. Within minutes Cody saunters through the doors laughing with one of his buddies. After saying a few words then Cody walks towards me setting his bag down before taking a seat himself.
"Mornin," he says attempting to be smooth.
Holding in an eye roll I respond. "Good afternoon, Cody. You do know it's the afternoon right?"
"Shit it's that time already?"
"Yes, bio class is after lunch. Lunch is at noon, noon is the-"
"Okay, okay smartass I get it." He teasingly glares at me.
The teacher quickly shuffles into the room automatically silencing the chatter. His lecture actually manages to beat the bell and we're granted free time to talk.
"So you wanna come over again Saturday?"
"Same time?" I ask. Our project was due next Monday leaving us only a week to finish up.
"Yep," he confirms. "Did you know Laney's been asking about you?"
"Really?" I didn't realize I made that much of an impact to be talked about.
He nods his head fondly chuckling. "She wants to know the next time you're coming over. I'll have to tell her she'll see you Saturday."
"That's so cute, I didn't know she liked me that much."
Class ends before Cody can give me an answer and the room is once again filled with noise. I lean against the wall beside the door waiting for the familiar brown mop of hair to walk through. As I'm mindlessly scrolling through my phone I spot bright red six inch high heels in my peripheral vision.
Oh boy.
I don't have a chance to say anything before she bursts. "Stay away from him, he's mine!"
The blonde has gone crazy, I repeat the blonde has gone crazy.
"Who are we talking about here-?"
Brittney looks almost as red as her shoes with anger. "You know who!" She spits out.
Haha, sorry sister I don't.
Sighing, I glance around to see we have a little crowd around us. "You're going to have to elaborate. I'm not sure which boy is your conquest this week."
Okay now there's steam flying out of her ears. "I thought you were supposed to be smart?" Wow rude much. "It's Cody!"
"Oh him!" I say drawing out the 'o'. "Yeah no, we're not together."
"Then why were you at his house on Saturday?" She fires back and looks confident with an annoyingly sly smirk.
Drew now decides this is the time he's going to grace us with his presence, awkwardly walking up to me.
"Uh, Harls what's happening?"
Again the lovely Barbie in front of me beats me to it. "Oh Drew, I was just asking Harley here why she was at my boyfriend's house!" So is this relationship she's talking about one sided?
"Cody and I were studying, you know since we're partners in class?" I raise an eyebrow unimpressed. Drew barely holds in a mix between laughing and a scoff.
Sensing her defeat she flips her perfectly straightened hair over her shoulder and whips around. "Whatever, stay away from him loser."
Walking away with Drew we leave the disappointed students, they wanted a cat fight.
"What was her deal?"
"She doesn't want to ruin her chance with her current conquest." Putting most of my books back into my locker I then presume walking.
"Ah I see," he says with a light smile on his face. "I almost feel sorry for him."
"What's the conversation for today?" Ally attempts to throw her arms over our shoulders, but it doesn't really work with our height advantages.
"Britt got mad at Harley," Drew fills in.
Perplexed she looks at me. "What did you do to her?"
I shrug with indifference. "She wants me to stay away from Cody."
She pieces it together as her mouth forms an 'o'. "She's more possessive over her boy toys than those werewolves are in the books."
We share a laugh at how true Ally's words are. Maybe that's why Britt has terrible anger management.
Splitting from our group Drew turns down the hallway leading to the sports fields.
"So," Ally starts. "Think Britt will cause more problems with you?"
"I don't know. I hope she gets over it though." I've never been in her radar before and I would much prefer to stay out.
As we walk into our home economics class the first thing I see is Britt's hard cold glare directed right at me.
Nudging Ally I discreetly whisper to her. "I believe I spoke too soon."
Glancing at Britt and her entourage of supposed friends she smiles at me. "You just couldn't stay out of the radar for the last year could you?"
Ignoring the ice queen and her minions we go to our adjoined table. At the front of the class, behind her dark mahagony desk, the teacher clasps her hands together.
"We're going to have our first assignment of the year!" Her voice is the only enthusiastic voice in this room. "Everyone team has to bake, ice, and decorate a two tiered cake. I'll be scoring your grade based on flavour, presentation, and creativity." She tells us a few more instructions and rules before letting us plan our cakes.
"So," Ally pulls out a notebook and flips to an empty page. "You thinking go basic with chocolate or Vanilla? Or go big with some outlandish flavour like orange, or strawberry?"
I think for a moment before replying. "I guess go big or go home, right? Strawberry would be cool."
"Thank goodness you agree." She scribbles down the chosen flavour with her ball point pen. "Okay, what about decoration. Simplistic or fancy?"
And so the questioning began, after going back and forth with a numerous amount, we somewhat have an outline of what we want.
Now it's just to actually make it.
