Harley
Shit no, I can't like my best friend.
What will that do to our life long friendship? Does true love even exist? Look at how easily my 'in love' parents broke up. Oh no and what if he doesn't feel the same way? That would be so so awkward and I would ruin everything.
Luckily Drew wasn't able to stay the night so he can't watch me panic. Knowing who always gives me the best advice I march downstairs.
Hearing the tv on I go to the living area. "Dad can I talk to you?"
He mutes the television. "Yeah sure, what's up?"
"I like someone," I lay beside my dad on the couch. "And I don't know if they are going to like me back."
Instantly a grin forms on his face slightly confusing me. "They definitely like you back."
"How do you know?" I peer at him.
"Because I know you like Drew." Does he have like a paternal instinct or something?
Baffled I ask, "how did you know before I did?"
"It's in your actions, it was only a matter of time before you realized it."
I frown, still uncertain if Drew really reciprocates. "But what if we don't work out?"
"Harley if you're basing your decisions off of what happened between you and your mother, don't." I sheepishly smile when he says that. He knew he was hitting the nail on the head. "Contrary to what you might think, I don't regret anything. We had wonderful years together where we were happy, I got you because of her and I would never trade that. Love does still exist in this world."
With my mind whirling with thoughts, I rest my head against his shoulder pondering over what he said. "Thanks Dad."
He squeezes my shoulder and unmutes the tv. Together in silence we watch various baking shows, renovation shows, and a couple of sports highlights.
When I check the time I decide to go to bed before I fall asleep on the couch. Saying goodnight I tiredly drag myself upstairs and through my bedtime routine.
I must have been pretty tired as I have no recollection of waiting for sleep to overtake me. Mornings feel so different waking up without Drew beside me, I had really gotten used to seeing him first thing in the morning.
Stretching ungracefully, my tired joints pop loudly. I lazily fumble my hand over the bedside table looking for my phone. When I grasp it I easily find the contact I'm looking for.
The only rings a couple of times before someone answers. "Yo."
"Hi Ally," I begin my morning routine holding the phone with one hand. "You busy right now?"
"Am I busy on this Sunday morning at ten am?"
I roll my eyes smiling. "Are you?"
"Nope," she laughs. "I'll be over in ten."
Before I can say bye she hangs up. What's with everyone cutting me off lately?
Knowing that Ally's ten minutes will actually be fifteen to twenty I take my time brushing my teeth and hair. Just as I'm putting away my plate from breakfast Ally loudly storms in.
"I'm here!" Okay now I think I actually heard an echo.
"I can tell!" My dad yells from his office.
