Serious Drew^
Sorry this chapter is a little shorter than the others. I'll try making the next one have more to it.
Where are you guys from?
**********
Andrew
(6 years old)
Our laughter floats through the peaceful air as we swing back and forth on the hammock. Every time we rock forward Harley's hair flows behind her accenting her striking blue eyes.
We could hear the clinking and banging from the garage as our fathers tinkered on their motorbikes. I can't wait until I can drive my own.
"Don't you wish that we were older?" I furrow a brow glancing at my best friend's cheerful face.
"Yeah," She says still smiling brightly. "But I think it's also fun being a kid. My mommy is always talking about her work and it doesn't sound very fun."
I nod my head agreeing. Harley's mom is very serious about her job and rarely has time to play with us.
"I can't wait until I'm allowed to drive my own motorcycle!"
Her eyes light up with excitement at the thought. "Me too!"
We lapse into quietness again as we flow back and forth in the wind softly. It's the perfect weather outside today. The sun is out, but not too hot, birds are chirping to each other happily. The blue sky- almost as bright as Harley's eyes- have only a few clouds dotting the expanse.
"My wish still hasn't come true, Drew." Harley says randomly.
"You have lots of time still." I attempt to comfort her.
She pouts a little disappointed. "But I don't want to wait a long time. I have not even kissed anybody yet!"
"That doesn't matter, neither have I." We are, only six after all.
"So many girls have a crush on you though!"
I frown. "No they don't."
"Yeah," She frantically nods her head shaking her locks of blonde hair everywhere. "All the girls in my class think you're cute."
Some of the girls were pretty, but nobody was as beautiful as Harley. Nobody had as bright and shining eyes as her. Nobody smiled and laughed as much as her. Nobody was her.
Curiously, I peer over at her from under my lashes. "Do you want to see what a kiss is like?"
"Like a real kiss?" She asks with wide shocked eyes.
"Yeah."
"And with you?"
"Yeah," I hope she says yes, I want to be her first kiss.
"Sure!" We stop our movement and sit up from our laying positions.
When our lips touch it's only for a split second before we hastily pull away blushing.
It felt kind of strange.
Her lips were super soft, but a little wet.
"Oh my gosh! I just got my first kiss!" Harley mumbles to herself excitedly, almost jumping up and down.
The fence gate swings opens and Duke walks through with my dad.
"Okay Harley, it's time to go home now." Her excitement diminishes a bit but doesn't completely disappear.
"Okay." Quickly throwing her arms around me she hugs me tightly. "Thanks Drew!"
I walk with her to the front of my house where her car is parked.
"Bye Harley, bye Duke!" I wave to them as Mr. Davidson backs their car out. Harley waves her hand from the back in her booster seat.
My dad looks down at me with a smile. "Alright bud, let's get you cleaned up before dinner."
"But dad," I whine. "I'm not even dirty!"
"You sure about that, Andrew?" He raises an eye brow as he pulls a leaf out of my hair.
I sigh in defeat but follow him inside our house.
* END OF FLASHBACK *
As a child I always had difficulty staying clean. Definitely drove my parents crazy with the amount of twigs and mud and whatever other wildlife I tracked in. I guess that's the joy of adolescence.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen now if I were to ask Harley to kiss me. She would probably think I'm joking, or have gone insane. Most likely the latter, insanely crazy for her.
I'm glad we were each other's first kisses, even if we were only six years old with no clue what to do. Or how to properly for that matter.
I don't understand how she can't see the effect she has on the people in her vicinity. She's never realized how many people like her, and not just in a friendly way. Boys locker rooms are probably worse than girls with all the gossiping flying around.
Modesty is another trait of hers that I respect so much. I'm not sure if I know anyone more humble and kindhearted than Harls. She'll make sure everyone else gets credit before she does, even when she deserves all of it.
Patience is also a virtue of hers, she seems to have an abundant amount. Sometimes when we were younger and I was stuck on a problem from school she'd help the best she could, even with me as her student. Which is quite an enduring challenge. But around her I'm always the student, constantly learning something new.
Whether it be I realize how her eyes seem to twinkle like stars in the night's sky when she's happy. Or when she's thinking hard, creases form on her forehead and a little frown appears on her kissable lips. Even when she gets mad she still looks adorable. Her button nose all scrunched up, eyes narrowed with her long hair flowing freely behind her. A favourite of mine is when she's pretending to not like something I say, containing a smile, before not being able to hold it in anymore. Her laugh is so infectious, sweet and melodic. Her full genuine smile sometimes makes my heart stop, before rapidly thudding in my chest again, at just how breathtakingly beautiful she is.
It's diffcult, when she does little things here and there, to not fall in love with her more and more each, and every day.
