Sadie sat on her bed reading a book. She didn't remember the last time she had done that. With a YouTube channel and a murder plot for months, she never sat down to pick up a book. Something suddenly hit her window. She stood and walked over to it. Brody stood on her front lawn. He waved at her.
She smiled and opened her window. "What you doing here?"
"Trying to be romantic," he shouted back. "Let's go for a drive."
A voice told Sadie not to go but looking down at Brody made her feel like she needed to. "Be there in a second." She rushed over to her phone and texted Poppy.
Sadie: So, Brody's outside my window. He wants to go for a drive. Should I go?
Sadie sat waiting for Poppy to reply. She knew Poppy would be busy bowling. Sadie walked over to the mirror and put on some lipstick. She went with her heart and grabbed her sweater. She ran down the stairs and into the living room. She kissed her father's forehead. "I'm going out to come back. Love you."
"I love you too, honey." Her dad smiled at her. "Be careful."
"I will."
Sadie walked out of the house. She smiled at Brody as she approached him. "Hi," she tucked her hair behind her ears.
He cleared his throat. "Let's go." He started walking to his car.
Sadie furrowed her brows feeling nervous about the switch in his attitude. But she followed him anyway. She got into his car. "So," she grinned. "What's up?"
Brody started the car, ignoring her. They pulled into the street.
Sadie stared at him. "Brody...what's going on?"
He shrugged gripping the wheel. "I don't...I don't know to be honest."
She looked at his back seat. There were empty beer bottles all over the floor. "Oh my- Brody, are you drunk right now?"
"I just needed to talk to you," tears filled his eyes. "I just need to talk."
"Talk about what?"
"You," Brody shook his head. "You did this to me."
Sadie turned away.
"I'm an alcoholic and I can't stop. I'm not even allowed back at church anymore because I'm always drunk. And it's your fault."
"You can't blame me for you continuing to drink. It's your choice-"
"You don't get it, do you? I get addicted to things easily. Especially when they're meant to be addicting. I did drugs in college and thank God I got off those but...now I'm stuck on alcohol." Brody stared at the road. "If you really loved me, you wouldn't have done that to me."
Sadie squeezed her eyes shut. "I know. And I was selfish when I did it. But I'm getting better now. Like honestly." She smiled. "I'm friends with Poppy now."
Brody's brows arched. "...Really?"
"Yeah. She helped me change my perspective on everything. Especially my brother's death. I even spoke to Lisa on thanksgiving night. I forgave her...It feels so good."
Brody's heart softened. "Is that why you're not posting anything anymore?"
Sadie's phone buzzed in her pocket. "Yeah. I've changed." It was a text from Poppy.
Poppy: Don't go! Don't you find it odd that he's suddenly into you? I told you to stop texting him.
Sadie sighed. She shut off her phone then looked around. "Hey, are we heading to the school?"
"Yeah," Brody gulped.
"Why?"
"I...I wanted us to go there for a bit."
Sadie squinted at him. "...Why?"
"I don't know...I need some things there, you know?"
Sadie slowly nodded. She quickly texted Poppy.
Sadie: He's taking me to the school.
Before she could lower her phone, Poppy replied.
Poppy: Please tell him to take you home.
Sadie gulped as they pulled into the parking lot. "Poppy keeps trying to tell me that what we're doing is wrong. You being my past teacher and all."
Brody parked the car. He sat back in his seat staring at the school. He gulped then looked at Sadie. "You've changed, right?"
"I have."
"Then why not delete my video with Charlotte off your phone?"
Sadie looked down at her phone. "Is this why you brought me here?"
"No...But I want to know. If you're such a good person...delete my video."
"I will when I get home."
"No, delete it now-"
"It's on my computer...on my Google account...and on my flash drive."
Brody stared at her. Tears filled his eyes. "What do you need me to do for you? I will do anything-"
"Are you crying?" She squinted at him. "Brody, I said I would delete it."
Brody sighed then he turned to the school. Fisher was running across the lawn.
"Did you see that-"
Brody quickly leaned over and kissed Sadie.
"Whoa," Sadie pushed him off. "What are you doing?"
Brody stared at her. "What? Do you not love me anymore?"
Sadie shrugged. "I was naive when I thought I did. I just...I thought love came from having a guy's attention. All I really needed was a friend or...at least someone who cared."
Brody looked down. He turned to the school. Mrs. Taylor's classroom light flickered on and off. He quickly turned to Sadie. "Get out."
"What?"
He leaned over her and opened the door.
"Are you serious-"
"Get out, Sadie!"
Shocked, Sadie slipped out of the car. She stumbled back watching the car drive away. She shook her head then texted Poppy, making her way to the school steps.
Sadie: He ditched me!!
She sat down on the steps about to call an uber. Before she could-
"Sadie?"
