"So," Poppy walked with Fisher," we've done almost every cliché tonight. Hall of mirrors, cotton candy. I think we can call it a night."
Fisher furrowed his brows. "What? No. We haven't gone on the wheel," he pointed at the Ferris wheel.
Poppy gulped then she shook her head. "We don't have to do that one," she forced a smile on her face.
Fisher stared at her then he smiled. "You're afraid of heights."
Poppy looked down. "I don't like the possibility of falling from high up."
"Same thing. Poppy," he stood in front of her and walked backwards. "I'm with you. The chances of you falling from anywhere are zero to none."
"I'm still scared. I don't wanna do it." The last time she told a guy she didn't want to go on the Ferris wheel he said okay and they walked away.
"We need to do all of our clichés," Fisher grabbed her hand and started to pull her towards the wheel.
Poppy yanked his arm a couple of times but he ignored her.
They stopped in front of it.
"I can't," Poppy refused to look at it turning away.
Fisher put his hand on her chin and turned her face to his. "Poppy, you made a list of things you wanted to do tonight. If we don't finish them then we're going to have to break up," Fisher chuckled.
Poppy smiled.
"I won't let anything happen to us."
"Don't let me fall or anything. Seriously. Also, I may crap my jeans."
Fisher laughed.
They both joined the line then get on the wheel when it was their turn.
As the safety bar lowered over Poppy's stomach she began to realize that she wasn't dreaming. "I change my mind."
Fisher looked at her. He sighed then he opened his mouth to ask them not to turn on the ride. But it began to move.
Poppy squeezed the bar and shut her eyes.
As they moved higher and higher, her stomach turned more and more.
Poppy's eyes opened and she let out a scream. "Holy sh-"
Fisher covered her mouth. "There's a kid right above us."
Poppy looked up. "A kid? On this ride?"
"I rode this when I was eight. This is nothing."
Poppy gulped then she looked down again.
The ride suddenly stopped.
She took a deep breath and leaned her back against the seat. She let out a nervous giggle. "Someone's always afraid of heights in clichés."
Fisher chuckled then he looked at her shaking hand. He slowly put his arm around her, pulling her closer to him. He could feel her heart beats vibrating through his body like a bass drum. "You really are scared."
Poppy frowned resting her head on his shoulders. "Not as much...Not now."
He blushed.
"There's another cliché we forgot."
"What?"
She leaned over and kisses his cheek.
He froze then he turned to her.
She smiled then she layed on his shoulder again shutting her eyes.
He felt his cheeks forcing a smile on his face. It suddenly spread from ear to ear. He liked her. This her. The one with hygiene, that smiled a lot more.
Sadie and Mason were walking near the Ferris wheel. Sadie looked up. She squinted her eyes to get a better look at Poppy and Fisher, then she smiled.
Liam stared at her, squinting also. What was her interest in them?
* * *
Fisher hopped out of Liam's car. "Thanks for the ride."
Liam nodded. "No problem."
Poppy quickly got out and hugged Fisher.
He blushed then he hugged her back. "Tonight was nice."
Poppy nodded, letting him go.
They both stared at each other.
Fisher snickered. "My dad told me no kissing till the twentieth date."
"Then," Poppy stepped closer to him," I guess we have a lot of dating to do."
"Yeah," Fisher stood awkwardly waiting for her to disobey his father's rule.
Liam suddenly honked his horn.
Fisher and Poppy flinched. "Dude, you'll wake my parents."
"Poppy," Liam rolled his eyes," you were supposed to be home by ten, it's eleven forty. You better thank God your dad trusts me."
Fisher looked away, knowing that Liam only said that to rub it in his face.
Poppy sighed then she gave Fisher an unexpected peck on his lips.
He stood shocked with puffy red cheeks.
Poppy smiled at him, backing into the car and tumbling sideways.
He chuckled. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," she regained her balance and opened the car door. "Bye."
"Bye," Fisher snickered and shook his head.
The car drove off.
"I still don't trust him," Liam shook his head, gripping the steering wheel.
"Liam," Poppy groaned.
"Sadie was staring at you two on the Ferris wheel with this creepy smile. I doubt it was because she thought you two were cute."
"Fisher doesn't like Sadie. They're not working together, if that's why you're implying."
"Because he's perfect, right? Sorry to break it to you, but no one on this planet it perfect-"
"But not even you would do what you're implying he'd do. He isn't that kind of person."
"If you say so. I will still watch him like a hawk... But that kiss though. Really awkward-"
"Stop it," Poppy covered her face. "It was in the spur of the moment. I just..did it."
"His dad should've seen. He would've chase you off his lawn with a shot gun. 'Kissin' my princess, are yah?' Pew Pew!"
Poppy laughed. "That is stereotypical!...But I really do like this guy."
"I know...I just want to prevent Mason from happening again."
"Mason and I never confessed that we liked each other until he started dating Sadie and thought it would be okay to try to kiss me. I want nothing to do with that kid...nothing."
